I will never understand Catholic prayer.

But anyways, related thread: Make November 3rd, 2008 a Day of Prayer for our Nation

I am my FRiend. I have been fasting for three weeks with the exception of several days when I was ill with a cold.

Beginning tomorrow evening I will be doing a total fast until after Novea and scripture study on Tuesday evening.

I suspect being in church when the polls are closing is the best place to be.

God is in control.

Don’t forget to ask God Himself, either. You can pray directly to Him and He will hear you.

If just 51% of the Catholics vote for “Life”. and 51% of the American Jews vote for Isreal, we will have a very very good night Tuesday.

In the future, please post such threads as a Catholic devotional or as a Catholic Caucus thread, so we don’t have objectors disrupting the thread.

Hail, holy Queen, Mother of Mercy!
Our life, our sweetness, and our hope!
To thee do we cry, poor banished
children of Eve, to thee do we send
up our sighs, mourning and weeping
in this valley, of tears.
Turn, then, most gracious advocate,
thine eyes of mercy toward us; and
after this our exile show unto us the
blessed fruit of thy womb Jesus;
O clement, O loving, O sweet virgin Mary.

Pray for us, O holy Mother of God

That we may be made worthy of the
promises of Christ.

As I put on my profile, send your prayer petitions to Lourdes should you feel inclined to do so.

Also, one may send petitions to Fatima though you have to get email out to do so: http://www.santuario-fatima.pt/portal/index.php?id=1395

Not to be sarcastic, but a "good outcome," given the two main-party choices, is not possible. We are forced to ask God to ratify a "lesser-of-two-evils" decision yet again. This will have to do for Tuesday, I suppose, but we had better get busy to "improve" the quality of candidates immediately after this election. A thread of a mass-exodus to a third party (for example: the Constitution Party) needs to be put before the RNC ASAP, with a view to either forcing the Republicans back to their erstwhile conservative principles, or making good with the threat.

As things stand now, we should be embarrassed that we are forced to implore God's aid on behalf of such a poor choice as McCain. We have collectively, as a nation, brought this circumstance on ourselves by our own complacency. We must do much better next time.

Our Lady of Prompt Succor, Hasten to Help Us!

Our Lady of Prompt Succor, Hasten to Help Us!

Our Lady of Prompt Succor, Hasten to Help Us!

Link to story about history of Our Lady of Prompt Succor --

Excerpt from that page:

Some call it "The Battle That Missed the War," as the treaty ending the War of 1812 had been signed in Ghent two weeks prior to the event. But Andrew Jackson's victory has always appeared to the people of New Orleans as bordering on the supernatural. General Jackson regarded the victory as a "signal interposition of heaven" that required an external manifestation of gratitude. He requested that a service of public thanksgiving be performed in St. Louis Cathedral. After attending the service, General Jackson visited the Ursuline nuns at the convent to express appreciation for their prayer:

Our Lady of Prompt Succor, Hasten to Help Us!

Short of this excerpt is that a Protestant future President asked for prayers of thanksgiving to Our Lady of Prompt Succor...

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession
was left unaided.

Inspired by this confidence,
I fly to thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother.
To thee I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful.

O Mother of the Word Incarnate,
despise not my petitions,
but in thy mercy hear and answer me.

Amen.

I've done two thousand Hail Marys in her honor and 20 Chaplets of Divine Mercy. I hope to say more Chaplets before the election's over, and intend to pray on election day as much as I can (although I'll be at work).

The importance of praying for this election cannot be overestimated.

“Hear me and understand well, my son the least, that nothing should frighten or grieve you. Let not your heart be disturbed. Do not fear that sickness, nor any other sickness or anguish. Am I not here, who is your Mother? Are you not under my protection? Am I not your health? Are you not happily within my fold? What else do you wish? Do not grieve nor be disturbed by anything. Do not be afflicted by the illness of your uncle, who will not die now of it. be assured that he is now cured.”
