Catholic ping
Oops, he’s an Orthodox monk, so disregard the Catholic comment.
I know of a guy who was a brilliant chemist at Merck who later was very successful as a broker on Wall Street, but he hated it. He wanted to become a Catholic priest, but had to take care of his elderly mother. He ended up buying a bar in Perth Amboy, NJ. Don’t know what ever became of him...
He went from wanting to be a monk to becoming a bartender?
Maybe he was just good at listening to people’s stories.

He was definitely concerned with others, and never married as far as I know. I understand he would cook up a little Interferon in the chem lab and give it to folks who needed but couldn’t afford it back when it was $$$$$ a dose.
