The Duplicity of Catholics United

Catholics United is running a TV ad in a few small markets arguing John McCain is not really pro-life because he failed to vote for an expansion of government-funded health care (SCHIP).
When I saw this story, I thought of the word "duplicity " -- "a contradictory doubleness of thought, speech, or action."
Catholics United pretends to care about the pro-life issue but fails to criticize, or even mention, the abortion extremism of Barack Obama.
Obama's position on the life issue has already been described ad nauseum, so I won't repeat it here.
When I discussed Obama with Doug Kmiec on the Al Kresta radio show this past Monday duplicity wasn't the issue, it was incredulity. Kmiec's claim that Obama was the candidate whose administration would result in the greatest reduction of abortion was simply unbelievable.
At least you can have an honest conversation with Kmiec.

I guess that Catholics United chose that name to “trick” people into thinking they are Catholics United for the Faith, aka CUF.
Just more of the seamless garment argument.
Mr. Kmiec’s position seems to be that Obama’s policies will lead to fewer people being poor and feeling desperate, therefore, fewer people will feel like they can’t support a baby and so will not choose abortion.
Bill Clinton made the claim on the campaign trail when confronted with pro-life students in Ohio that the number of abortions went down during his presidency. I don’t have the numbers but it seems to me that, if it did, it was probably due more to the light pro-lifers have shined on the atrocity of abortion, and the fact that there are more pro-life crisis pregnancy centers and help for women who choose life for their babies.
What I have tried to help people grasp is that abortion is such an abomination that this nation cannot expect to prosper as long as it is not only allowed but encouraged.
Take for example, the recent diatribe by one columnist that Gov. Palin’s baby is a burden to society and her family.
Fr. Corapi, Fr. Pavone and Fr. Eutenaur are leading lights in this fight. Any Catholic who is confused about this issue in the context of social justice would do well to read and watch what these fine priests have to say about it.
