Ron, you are sadly wrong. We DO have evidence of Mayan civilizations, Incan civilizations, but NONE of any metal forging Mormon civlizations.

The book of Mormon is a fraud and the religion of Mormonism is fradulent.

Of course they could have done all this. Jesus helped them!

You've answered your own question!

17 It no sooner appeared than I found myself delivered from the enemy which held me bound. When the light rested upon me I saw two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other—This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!
18 My object in going to inquire of the Lord was to know which of all the sects was right, that I might know which to join. No sooner, therefore, did I get possession of myself, so as to be able to speak, than I asked the Personages who stood above me in the light, which of all the sects was right (for at this time it had never entered into my heart that all were wrong)—and which I should join.
19 I was answered that I must join none of them, for they were all wrong; and the Personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that those professors were all corrupt; that: “they draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me, they teach for doctrines the commandments of men, having a form of godliness, but they deny the power thereof.”
20 He again forbade me to join with any of them; and many other things did he say unto me, which I cannot write at this time. When I came to myself again, I found myself lying on my back, looking up into heaven. When the light had departed, I had no strength; but soon recovering in some degree, I went home. And as I leaned up to the fireplace, mother inquired what the matter was. I replied, “Never mind, all is well—I am well enough off.” I then said to my mother,
“I have learned for myself that Presbyterianism is not true.”

They post some extremely controversial material and lock the thread to eliminate others to debate what is posted.

You can always start a new one in a manner that makes it real hard to lock.

Just ask the Religion Moderator how to do it.

I haven’t really heard a good explanation of how the Jews made a golden calf statue at the base of Mt. Sinai, either.

How could a few people run a complex metallurgical culture in the wilderness and at the same time make shelters, get food and just plain survive?

+++++++++++

With the same type of ability Moses had when he opened the Red Sea and created dry ground where the water had been.

you know, with God,s help.

Why not ????

They had the gold jewelry from the Egyptians and the ability to make it..

Later they beat gold into ornamentation for the temple in the wilderness and the Ark of the Covenant..

Exd 32:1 And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for [as for] this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.

Exd 32:2 And Aaron said unto them, Break off the golden earrings, which [are] in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring [them] unto me.

Exd 32:3 And all the people brake off the golden earrings which [were] in their ears, and brought [them] unto Aaron.

Exd 32:4 And he received [them] at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a molten calf: and they said, These [be] thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt. Exodus 32:1-4

Yes, but why did the false prophet Joseph Smith copy from the books of Ezra and Nehemiah about the rebuilding of the temple when the Jews returned from captivity for his fairy tale ????

There were 50,000 people to rebuild the temple in Jerusalem..

The whole congregation together [was] forty and two thousand three hundred [and] threescore, Beside their servants and their maids, of whom [there were] seven thousand three hundred thirty and seven: and [there were] among them two hundred singing men and singing women. Ezra 2:64, 65

The whole congregation together [was] forty and two thousand three hundred and threescore, Beside their manservants and their maidservants, of whom [there were] seven thousand three hundred thirty and seven: and they had two hundred forty and five singing men and singing women. Nehemiah 7:66, 67

But it was different and without the ornamentation..

Ezr 3:8 Now in the second year of their coming unto the house of God at Jerusalem, in the second month, began Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and the remnant of their brethren the priests and the Levites, and all they that were come out of the captivity unto Jerusalem; and appointed the Levites, from twenty years old and upward, to set forward the work of the house of the LORD.

Ezr 3:9 Then stood Jeshua [with] his sons and his brethren, Kadmiel and his sons, the sons of Judah, together, to set forward the workmen in the house of God: the sons of Henadad, [with] their sons and their brethren the Levites.

Ezr 3:10 And when the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the LORD, they set the priests in their apparel with trumpets, and the Levites the sons of Asaph with cymbals, to praise the LORD, after the ordinance of David king of Israel.

Ezr 3:11 And they sang together by course in praising and giving thanks unto the LORD; because [he is] good, for his mercy [endureth] for ever toward Israel. And all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the LORD, because the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid.

Ezr 3:12 ¶ But many of the priests and Levites and chief of the fathers, [who were] ancient men, that had seen the first house, when the foundation of this house was laid before their eyes, wept with a loud voice; and many shouted aloud for joy:

Ezr 3:13 So that the people could not discern the noise of the shout of joy from the noise of the weeping of the people: for the people shouted with a loud shout, and the noise was heard afar off. Ezra 3:8-13

And it took about 20 years to finish with all those people working ..

Now in the second year of their coming unto the house of God at Jerusalem, in the second month, began Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and the remnant of their brethren the priests and the Levites, and ALL THEY THAT WERE COME OUT OF CAPTIVITY INTO JERUSALEM; and appointed the Levites, from twenty years old and upward, to set forward the work of the house of the LORD. Ezra 3:8

They were commanded by God to build it..

And the elders of the Jews builded, and they prospered through the prophesying of Haggai the prophet and Zechariah the son of Iddo. And they builded, and finished [it], according to the commandment of the God of Israel, and according to the commandment of Cyrus, and Darius, and Artaxerxes king of Persia. Ezra 6:14

And it’s odd that “Nephi” discovered America and built a temple in 600 BC..

It just so happens that the Jews returned from captivity 600-500 BC and rebuilt the tewmple in Jerusalem..

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

“Nephi”...Nehemiah.......

The Jews went to another country for materials..

They gave money also unto the masons, and to the carpenters; and meat, and drink, and oil, unto them of Zidon, and to them of Tyre, to bring cedar trees from Lebanon to the sea of Joppa, according to the grant that they had of Cyrus king of Persia. Ezra 3:7

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

masons...and masons are given MONEY....

No precious metals were used in the building.. there was gold but it was used for coin to pay for the temple..

Ezr 2:68 ¶ And [some] of the chief of the fathers, when they came to the house of the LORD which [is] at Jerusalem, offered freely for the house of God to set it up in his place:

Ezr 2:69 They gave after their ability unto the treasure of the work threescore and one thousand drams of gold, and five thousand pound of silver, and one hundred priests’ garments. Ezra 2:68, 69

Neh 7:70 ¶ And some of the chief of the fathers gave unto the work. The Tirshatha gave to the treasure a thousand drams of gold, fifty basons, five hundred and thirty priests’ garments.

Neh 7:71 And [some] of the chief of the fathers gave to the treasure of the work twenty thousand drams of gold, and two thousand and two hundred pound of silver.

Neh 7:72 And [that] which the rest of the people gave [was] twenty thousand drams of gold, and two thousand pound of silver, and threescore and seven priests’ garments. Nehemiah 7:70-72

The false prophet Joseph Smith must have read about the gold and thought it sounded good to use in his plagurized fairy tale...Fairy tales always have fairy gold and gold at the end of rainbows and golden crowns for golden kings...

However in the real story the goldsmiths instead turned to carpentry...

After him repaired Malchiah the goldsmith’s son unto the place of the Nethinims, and of the merchants, over against the gate Miphkad, and to the going up of the corner. And between the going up of the corner unto the sheep gate repaired the goldsmiths and the merchants. Nehemiah 3:31, 32

Yeah, these slaves just happened to have a whole bunch of gold earrings. They probably had bought them with their slave earnings.

Then they fortunately found an abandoned kiln at the base of Mt. Sinai with enough nearby coal or something handy to melt the gold in a giant pot one guy had hauled on his back out of Egypt. It’s not easy to melt gold. A campfire won’t do it. You need temperaturs over 1500 degrees.

Fortunately, the Sinai Desert is chock full of beehives, so getting the beeswax to prepare the cast for the molten earrings was no problem.

None of it makes the least bit of sense.

Again, as I said earlier, the Hebrews got the gold jewelry from the Egyptians..

Exd 3:21 And I will give this people favour in the sight of the Egyptians: and it shall come to pass, that, when ye go, ye shall not go empty:

Exd 3:22 But every woman shall borrow of her neighbour, and of her that sojourneth in her house, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment: and ye shall put [them] upon your sons, and upon your daughters; and ye shall spoil the Egyptians. Edodus 3:21, 22

Exd 2:2 Speak now in the ears of the people, and let every man borrow of his neighbour, and every woman of her neighbour, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold.

Exd 11:3 And the LORD gave the people favour in the sight of the Egyptians. Moreover the man Moses [was] very great in the land of Egypt, in the sight of Pharaoh’s servants, and in the sight of the people. Exodus 11:2, 3

Exd 12:35 And the children of Israel did according to the word of Moses; and they borrowed of the Egyptians jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment:

Exd 12:36 And the LORD gave the people favour in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they lent unto them [such things as they required]. And they spoiled the Egyptians. Exodus 12:35, 36

It would be unlikely that this gold calf was solid gold. The weight alone would make it nearly impossible to lift. More likely it was wooden with gold hammered in thin - tinfoil like layer over it. Very common in those day (as well as today) and very easy to do.

Yes, the Egyptians lent their jewelry to their slaves. Makes perfect sense.

Too bad they didn't realize that their slaves planned to steal it.

I mean, if you can't trust a slave, who can you trust?

Do you have an explanation of how the former slaves were able to achieve the melting point of gold?

Or how Moses somehow burned the gold (a physical impossibility) and then ground it into powder (another physical impossibility) and forced these former slaves to drink it (when gold is not water soluble in any event)?

Perhaps. But that's not how the story is written.
