Hmmm, looks like the time for talk might be coming to an end.
The Archdiocese has had 30 years to discipline him, and they’re just too scared of the Democratic Party to do it. They know that no one who spouts left-wing politics will EVER have their IRS status challenged (on the other hand, if he were a conservative, it would be challenged and the diocese would have silenced him decades ago).
The Chicago Archdiocese, including its clergy, is probably full of “Catholics” who are more Democrat than Catholic in any case, and whose political allegiance is the strongest thing in their lives.
It’s put up or shut up time for Cardinal George. May God give him strength to silence this agent of satan.

I lived there for two years, and was a regular churchgoer at that time (St. Mary of the Angels). Your statement is VERY true.
The best thing that can be said about Cardinal Jellyfish, er, George is that he isn't Bernadin.

Cardinal George is basically a good man who inherited a dreadful mess from his predecessor, Cardinal Bernardin, who may have been the single most destructive force in the Catholic Church in America after Vatican II, not excluding such idiots as Rembert Weakland.
What do you do when probably a majority of your priests are trouble makers of one sort or another? Fire them all? Then who will run the parishes and say Mass?
But you have to draw the line somewhere, and it seems to me that Fr. Plfleger has crossed that line repeatedly. I don’t envy Cardinal George his job.

Believe me, I have to look beyond these things (mostly, “these things” are the awful bishops) all the time in order to stay in the Church.

That’s true - and Bernardin set a very low standard! Just about anybody could have surpassed it!
Thanks for the info. I agree with you about Bernardin (who has practically been canonized by AmChurch - or would be, if they even believed in the supernatural).
Most of the priests no doubt are bad or at least borderline, and I think Cdl George probably thought this spectacularly bad guy would burn himself out, leave voluntarily, and save him the trouble. The problem is that people like that rarely do.
Bishops (and, subsequently, archbishops and cardinals) are usually chosen from the go-along-to-get-along guys, and we are seeing what a great idea this is now. We had some actively bad bishops in the US - among whom I count Bernardin - and their weak successors simply don’t know what to do or how to handle these situations. So they hunker down and hope it will all go away. But it never does...
Sorry to hear that. IMHO, it’s actually Pfleger who’s not Catholic, and may never have been. Don’t let the phonies drive your decisions. Prayers for you.
You probably live in a lousy diocese, too. I don’t live in Chicago, but I live in a diocese with an awful, weak bishop who is very left-wing, sort of passive-aggressive in his behavior, opposed to the Latin Mass and any liturgical directives that come out of Rome, terrified of offending the powerful clergy who have been here longer than he has, weak in dealing with clerical misbehavior (if it involves one of the favored liberal clergy), unable to deal with the bad situations he took over from a lax bishop with a 27 year reign, and generally doing nothing but planning on turning out the lights in the local Church when he leaves.
We still get converts, but I don’t know how. Obviously, they read and understand what the Church really is. But at the local level here - and probably where you live, it’s pretty pathetic.
I am upset that my religion has come to this. My priests are gay, or they are extremely feminine. I have just sadness over the situation.
Cardinal George has always been too chicken to deal with any problem priests in the archdiocese.

The gay clergy thing is a definite problem, but it all comes from the bishop, who is either (a) gay himself (as in my former diocese of Santa Rosa) or (b) weak and terrified of the gay mafia. It takes a very strong bishop to fight this.
JPII, whatever his many virtues, was a weak administrator and appointed weak administrators as bishops. We’re inheriting the accumulated problems of many decades now.
Time for Rome to step in.
