Bishop Rodi will serve 67,351 Catholics and 127 priests in the Archdiocese of Mobile.

That is an ARCHdiocese? Seems very small to me.

How many Bishop appointments have there been in the last few days.

Archdioceses are so-declared because of geographic/size considerations OR because of the historic importance of a see.

In the Gulf Coast region, Biloxi, Mobile, New Orleans and Natchez are all important early centers of Catholicism in the region and all have ties to 16th and 17th century French and Spanish exploration. All four have been the head of a Catholic diocese (although Natchez was moved to Jackson in the mid-20th century) and two of the four - New Orleans and Mobile - are archdioceses probably more for the “historic importance” reason than the “geographic/size” reason.

I believe each state has at least one Archdiocese.
