In the RLDS visitor center in Nauvoo in the early 1990's they had a picture hanging that they claimed was signed by Emma Smith of Joseph. It looked like a later reproduction to me. But hey I'm no scientist.
incidentally more books have been written about Joseph Smith than any other American, including Geroge Washington and Abraham Lincoln.
It is by no means improbable that some future text-book, for the use of generations yet unborn, will contain a question something like this: What historical American of the nineteenth century has exerted the most powerful influence upon the destinies of his countrymen? And it is by no means impossible that the answer to that interrogatory may be thus written: Joseph Smith, the Mormon prophet. Josiah Quincey 1883
I’ve seen them in person. Amazing things really.
I used to live in Nauvoo. In fact, my Eagle Scout project was mapping and marking the “Martyrdom Trail”, the 11 mile route between Nauvoo and Carthage that Joseph and Hyrum took when taken into custody by the State Militia who promised to protect them, but did not.
The trail has since become a National Historic Trail for the BSA. Scouts can earn a patch if they hike it.
(too much info I know, but I think it’s cool)
Anyway, the mask and the pic sure look the same to me. Thanks for the link.
