Mormonism increasingly draws Spanish-speakers as converts
Arizona Daily Star ^ | March 8, 2008 | Stephanie Innes

Spanish-speakers are fueling growth in the local Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which recently opened new worship space on Tucson's predominantly Hispanic South Side.

Many local Mormon worshippers, like 47-year-old Juan Arroyo, converted to the faith from Catholicism while living in their native countries. Arroyo, a roofer who has four children, joined the church when he lived in Guadalajara, Mexico. He's been in the United States for seven years.

"I was missing something, and my life changed greatly after meeting the missionaries," he said in Spanish.

Nationally, the number of Spanish-speaking congregations in the Mormon church grew by 64 percent between 2000 and 2006. There are 639 such congregations in the United States.

The church is growing quickly in Mexico.

Church officials say its presence there began in 1875 when Brigham Young, then denomination president, called on six missionaries from Salt Lake City to bring Spanish-language materials about the church to Mexico. In 1885, a group of nearly 400 colonists from Utah arrived at northern Mexico's Casas Grandes River. Mexico's first stake was created in Colonia Juárez in 1895. By 1912, more than 4,000 members had settled in Chihuahua and Sonora.

More than 1 million members now live in Mexico, a predominantly Catholic country with a population of about 108 million.

Humpty Dumpty
'When I use a word,' Humpty Dumpty said, in a rather scornful tone,' it means just what I choose it to mean, neither more nor less.'

'The question is,' said Alice, 'whether you can make words mean so many different things.'

'The question is,' said Humpty Dumpty, 'which is to be master - that's all.'

Alice was too much puzzled to say anything; so after a minute Humpty Dumpty began again. 'They've a temper, some of them - particularly verbs: they're the proudest - adjectives you can do anything with, but not verbs - however, I can manage the whole lot of them! Impenetrability! That's what I say!'

I will not have time today to show others how most of you care not to understand what you are talking about.

Continue to enjoy telling each other how good you are.

Justification: Through Faith alone?
3-14-08 | me

I have seen many discussions on the theology of Justification and Salvation. Many Protestants, in particular, tend to believe that the soul can be saved through Faith alone, Sola fide, and doing good works plays no part is Salvation. This is reinforced in particular by the books of the New Testament like Romans and Galatians.

Other denominations, such as those in the Catholic, Orthodox, and Restorationist Churches think that one must both be Faithful and do good works. This is supported in particular by the Epistle of James.

here is a list of quotes supporting and opposing the Sola fide doctrine (from wikipedia):

You seem very concerned that some Christians might disagree slightly about what it takes to be saved, yet Fred this is the third time on this thread alone, that I have asked you, what must YOU do to be saved as a Mormon? Come on, it’s simple to answer right?

You’ve never answered. Why?

Uh, that's not what the Bible teaches.

Matthew 7:14 - Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Galatians 1:9 - As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. This verse indicates that anyone who preaches a different Gospel might be the sons of perdition you speak of. Hint: That would be the LDS.

Luke 16:23 - And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. Was this man a 'son of perdition'?

But nevertheless, I see you still refused to publicly condemn the LDS campaign of going door to door pronouncing non-mormons as Apostate. Now if we're all saved - why do that?????? If we're 'all saved' Resty why the need to make everyone MORMON????? That speaks for itself don't it?

>>>By this, anyone else calling themselves a "Melchizedek priest" blasphemes.

Now you are just making things up. Blasphemy by definition is treating the name of God in an irreverent manner. It doesn't say antying about the name of a man.

You still haven't answered why jesus would call himself after a man.

Answered in a previous post

re: Ezekiel 44 discusses future Priests in the last day officiating in temple ordiannces. You can pray and ask God why he plans to have priests officiating in the last days, according to the bible.
