I thought Peter Paul and Mary were on the same page!
In his address at the New Baptist Covenant meeting, Carter sounded very similar themes, citing "manmade issues" like the role of women, homosexuality, and adding, this time, abortion, saying: "How many believe that we are saved by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ? How many believe that like the early Christians we should put aside our deeply felt personal differences and work in unity to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ? You see the distinction between those kinds of questions. We should remember which are the most important."
Jimmy is lying to the congregation. Sodomites get their label from the city of Sodom. It is not a "manmade" controversy to consider that homosexuality is a sin. Jimmy seeks to celebrate their sins and tell the world that they aren't sins at all, so long as you vote Democrat. We are all sinners but few of us would celebrate our sins and deny in the face of God that we sin.
And abortion is planned infanticide. No other argument about it. It is the wilfull termination of a viable life. What has the child done to deserve death, Jimmy?
Don’t think for a second that Paul would not have ‘split’ with Peter if Peter had not recognized his error and agreed with Paul.
There are certain things (fundamental or core doctrines) that if you aren’t in agreement on you are not ‘in union’ with each other. The particular issue between Peter and Paul is one of them, namely Peter’s attempt to put Law into the Gospel (and thus, more fundamentally, change salvation from what God did, to something you ‘do’ and earn by following the law).
There are many more issues that people can differ on but not cause union to go away - things such as differences in worship services, style of church, organizational structure of the church, different dates for different holy days, different times and dates for worship services, etc.
Thanks for showing that man working to read and understand the Word of God is not enough.
