Say No to "Jerry Springer" Opera in Carnegie Hall (Please take action)
The American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family and Property ^

Perhaps it is easier to list what is not attacked in this brutal ridiculing of the Catholic faith. The production is called "Jerry Springer--The Opera in Concert" and on January 29 and 30, it will be performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

The American TFP and its America Needs Fatima campaign vehemently protest this production. The TFP is asking its friends and supporters to send their e-protests to the famous theater right away (click here). The TFP is also promoting a protest outside Carnegie Hall on Tuesday night from 6-8 p.m.

The musician “opera” defies description in detail since it contains so much profanity, nudity and blasphemous content. Some examples include:

Jerry is cackling over all the free publicity this will now get.

Before it would have been a goofy anomaly seen by the weirdos who go to this kind of garbage. Look for it to appear on Olberman and the rest of the jerks on MSNBC.

How many times do we have to go down this route before we realize this kind of protest only gives them the publicity they crave?

It’s a Catch-22. Silence is a type of tacit approval. They will keep on pushing the boundaries until it is accepted by all. On the other hand, if you pay attention to it, they get publicity.

I see your point, but I don’t think a quiet e-mail would do much for their publicity.

I'm talking about the site calling for a protest and all that, and calls for contributions, which I don't think are needed for emailings.

Please understand, even though I'm not a believer I respect those who are, and don't want this junk becoming a cause celebre, you know?

Christians were quiet when they took Christmas out of the stores, but when we fought back, Christmas has returned to the stores.

They are even calling Christmas trees, Christmas trees.

Our Lord and Our Lady to be Blasphemed at Carnegie Hall

Rosary of Reparation
January 29, 6:00 PM

Carnegie Hall, Manhattan

On Jan. 29, Jerry Springer: The Opera is scheduled to be performed at Carnegie Hall.  According to press reports, in the show:

  • The crucifixion is mocked and the Eucharist is trashed
  • Jesus is introduced as “the hypocrite son of the fascist tyrant on high” plus he wears a diaper, is fat and effeminate.  And Jesus admits, “Actually, I am a bit gay.”
  • Eve touches Jesus indecently (too immoral to describe) and they say Our Blessed Mother was “raped by an angel”
  • God is a fat man in a white suit who complains about being blamed for everyone’s problems.  Then he invites Jerry Springer to join Him to “sit in Heaven beside me, hold my hand and guide me.”  At the end Jerry emerges as the true savior of mankind.

Urgent reparation is needed for these blasphemies.  Join our Rosary of Reparation at:

Time: 6:00 PM
Place: Carnegie Hall, Manhattan (Corner 57th St. & 7th Ave.)
Date: Tuesday, January 29, 2008

“I’m talking about the site calling for a protest and all that, and calls for contributions, which I don’t think are needed for emailings.”

Each of us needs to use our own judgment about what to do, and I don’t think many of us can protest, anyway, but we can all send an e-mail.

Organizations always ask for money so they can carry on their work.

That whole story has been SO overplayed. Seriously, I'm against all that junk, and even here in liberal Boston I saw little or no evidence of that.

Do we really need to play victim all the time just because someone doesn't see things our way? What is the evidence that this "taking Christmas out of the stores" was anything more than a few tiny incidents?

And frankly, isn't everyones always saying Christmas isn't about commercialism? Why aren't Christians DEMANDING their saviors name not be used to sell junk toys and that stuff?

I’d prefer not to deflect too much from the main topic of this thread, but, among other things, employees in stores were not even ALLOWED to say Merry Christmas, but after Christians protested, that has changed in many stores.

Is that really important--saying "Merry Christmas" in a store, from an employee? I mean, come on.

I'm guessing you'll say it is important. I don't think it is. We'll leave it there.

Anyway, have a good night.

It’s sad when an employer doesn’t ALLOW their employee to say Merry Christmas.

And you have a good night, as well.

I remember back in the 1980’s when a film I believe called Hail Mary by Jean-Luc Godard played in theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts devoted to off beat films.I remember seeing nuns and others protesting and praying with their rosary beads outside the theater. So, I went to see the film to find out what the fuss was all about. The movie sucked. It was boring. I would imagine from what I am reading here that the Springer film severely lacks art and talent.

Any film, play, etc. that only has shock intent always does lack talent.

A theater in my area showed an offensive Christian movie, and I never went back to that theater again, and that was around fifteen years ago. I think boycotts are effective, because the only thing these clowns care about is money.

ooooooh but many FReepers think we should just ignore the play and like all bad things, it will just go away...</sarc>

Thanks for the ping.

We’ve written Carnegie Hall and put the bug in their ear that “we will be removing Carnegie Hall from our charitable contribution receivers' list & never attend another function at Carnegie if they show this filth”.

Lets just see if they adhere.

I’m one of those who thinks it’s stupid to give them this much attention. This thing would sink like a stone without publicity. It’s not like the DaVinci Code or something that got major hyping. It’s just a tawdry little high-schoolish thing, and I think it should be ignored.
