CHICAGO (AP) – Former Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan told a predominantly black Catholic church that people who believe in God need not be divided, delivering a message of religious unity that has marked his recent addresses.
Speaking with a strong voice and gesturing firmly from the pulpit as he addressed a crowd of about 1,100 at St. Sabina Catholic Church, the black Muslim leader looked and sounded little like a man recovering from illness.
“I feel very honored to stand in this place,” he said. “I feel very honored by the media being struck by my being in a Catholic church with a white pastor.”
St. Sabina's Rev. Michael L. Pfleger told his congregation that Farrakhan's presence at the church is “only strange to people who don't know Minister Louis Farrakhan.”
“He's spoken here many times and St. Sabina is a home for Louis Farrakhan,” said Pfleger, who called Farrakhan “a gift from God to a sick, sick world.”
Farrakhan, who ceded leadership of the Nation of Islam last year to an executive board while recovering from complications of prostate cancer, slowly has been making his way back into the public eye.
The 74-year-old made what he called his final public address Feb. 25, when he delivered a two-hour speech to tens of thousands in Detroit in observance of the Nation of Islam's annual Saviour's Day.
But he since has delivered several intimate lectures to Muslims at the Mosque Maryam in Chicago, the organization's headquarters. He also has given interviews to Arab TV Al-Jazeera, ABC's Nightline and CNN.
For his wide-ranging address Friday titled “The Presence of the Kingdom of God,” Farrakhan said he left his Quran at his seat and preached from his Christian Bible.
“I hate the division ... between people who believe in God,” he said. “I love the Bible, I love the Quran and I don't know how I can come in a Christian church with a Christian pastor and not speak from the book that Christians believe in, because I believe in it as well.”

What 'true' Muslim would do that!? What do we know about the American 'Nation of Islam'. Is it truly Muslim?
Nation of Islam is akin to many of the televangelists and poverty pimps in that its all about scamming people out of their money. They are a totally whacked out group though.
Whacked or otherwise, I’ll take them any day over the genuine militant Islamists. Any Muslim who feels compelled to quote Scripture from the Bible can’t be all that bad.
That sure doesn’t look like a Catholic church, maybe it’s the parish hall? No crucifix, no altar, no tabernacle, etc...? And what’s with the neon “Jesus” sign? Very unorthodox to say the least. Seems more Baptist than Catholic from the small amount we can see.
Unbelievable. I hope they’re offering Mass and rosaries for him... who knows, when he’s knocked off the horse on the road to Damascus... he’ll be a huge witness.

St. Sabina's and Fr. Pfleger are a story in themselves. He's done a lot of good work trying to get drugs, etc., out of the community. They aren't exactly noted for their rigid obedience to the Archbishop, however.
Islam is a syncretist cult. They quote Scripture and talk about Jesus whenever it’s convenient for them to do so, and this was one of the things that Mohammed began to include more and more in his “message” to make his military victories sit a little easier with the mostly Christian conquered peoples.
But their Jesus is entirely different from the Christian Jesus, and fits in perfectly well with Mohammed’s insane hallucinations. Don’t be fooled. Many Middle Eastern Christians were fooled by it, since the ME at that time was a hotbed of heretical forms of Christianity not in union with Rome, and many of the residents obviously regarded this as yet another one.
Farrakhan has reconciled with Islam (the more orthodox, non-prison version) and now he is trying to do the same with a race-baiting “Catholic” priest whose bishop is too timid to discipline him or even oppose him.
You're right, Campion, the Nation of Islam is in no way compatible with Christianity.

It is as Muslim as Jahovah Witnesses is Christian, which means that the Saudis would reject the group outright of the NOI.
At least now, thanks to the internet, this insane cult called Islam is being exposed more and more for what it truly is. It is not suprising as you have posted that the ME and North Africa fell to the Mohammidians because of the sad divisions that even back in the 7th century was troubling the Christians. This is a sad reminder of when there is divisions in the Body of Christ, it opens up the way for crazy cults to come right on in with their false prophets.

Sounds like the Vatican is warming the Catholics up for a change in policy...

If you knew anything about St. Sabina’s in Chicago or Fr. Pfleger as a priest, you wouldn’t have written what you did.
