The Irish have always been lousy on music. German Catholics had a much better musical tradition, and were becoming very influential in musical circles. I think things would have improved enormously if VatII had not come along and nipped the liturgical reform movement in the bud (basically solving the problem by doing away with the liturgy altogether!).

I've heard of "contradictions in terms" before, but joining "hillbilly," Catholicism," and "Hispanic" has got to set some sort of record!

I thought as long as rednecks weren't involved that religious emotionalism was perfectly okay? Goodness knows that liberals never criticize the traditional Black church, which seems to have gotten its worship style more from Appalachian hillbillies than from Africa.

Thank you for treating all hillbillies the same! (I've had it with the "our yokels are better than yours" mentality.)
