Medical Mercy Team Brings a Touch of Mercy to Kenya
LCMS World Relief and Human Care ^

Posted on 11/04/2006 9:52:13 AM PST by Charles Henrickson

An LCMS World Relief/Human Care medical mercy team recently spent four days in Kenya, and treated nearly 1000 extremely impoverished individuals. The team of two doctors, three nurses, and two lay volunteers made medical assessments, dispensed free medications and changed dressings on injuries. The team saw many cases of malaria, as well as HIV infections and other maladies related to poor sanitation and malnutrition. Patients paid 20 shillings (approx. $0.28 USD) for a doctor visit.

Sally Henrickson, RN, LCSW, who coordinates medical and material goods and medical personnel for LCMS World Relief/Human Care, organized and led this pilot trip to Kenya. Due to the immense need there, more trips are being planned. The goal of these trips is to help our partner church, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kenya, increase its capacity to help the needy and share with them the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Participants agree that this trip was the experience of a lifetime.

LCMS World Relief/Human Care also sends medical supplies overseas. Presently, through our partner, Orphan Grain Train, one container of supplies, worth over $200,000, is being sent to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sudan, to help furnish a hospital in Jubu, and a second is going to Kenya, with materials for clinics in Atemo and a new clinic in the Kibera slums.

I did not include the last paragraph of the article, which has ways people can help, as well as Sally's contact info. I wasn't sure if that's appropriate here. But you can click the link to the article and get that information, if you like.

My wife, Sally Henrickson, just spent 16 days in October in Kenya for LCMS World Relief and Human Care, coordinating a medical mercy trip. The team did some fantastic work! If you want to read more about it and see lots of photos, Sally has her own webpages on this . . .

Making me homesick.

Tell your wife thank you from the bottom of my heart. She will never see the ripple effect from the work she did this side of Glory but she will see it there.

Sally loved it there in Kenya--the people, the food, the way of life. . . .

Look in the "To:" box and see if I've listed everyone for a . . . Kenya ping!
