The church, from the top, was molesting priests and kids. At the very top they were hiding it and abetting it. Cardinal Law and others were acting like madams in a whore house.
Just because this guy left a pervert order pretending to be a church, does not mean he left Jesus - which is the true head of all Christians. Any authority figure in the church protecting or practicing perversion have nothing to do with representing Jesus nor can they claim his authority. Sometimes you can not participate in - or prop up something evil/criminal and then call yourself innocent. Judging this priest is not wise because he may have felt he had to leave the church in order not to prop up the corruption.
I am a Catholic and I think Jesus has a lot to do with exposing and trashing the whore house order of the church. I think the knee jerk reaction of Catholics who, in the habit of blind obedience, try and rationalize or condemn those who speak out is a big part of the problem. There may be some false accusers - but the track record of the church does not lend itself to kneejerk obedience and defense when it comes to exposure of sexual molestion and perversion. That is my opinion.
