Vatican (Synod) bishops postpone message

VATICAN CITY (AP) - Bishops on Friday postponed releasing the final message of a three-week meeting, asking the drafting committee to review some of the wording and translation.

"The synod fathers had some issues with the wording, not the content," said the Rev. Giorgio Costatino, a synod spokesman.

He cited as an example the request to change the heading on the section dealing with Christian unity from "Ecumenism" to the Gospel phrase "That all may be one." The issue of whether brother or sister should come first when addressing the laity in the introduction was also brought up, Costatino said.

Tuesday in the afternoon and Wednesday, October 18th and 19th 2005, the discussions in the Working Groups continued. There were 240 Fathers present at the Fifth Session, 235 in the Sixth and 167 in the Seventh.

The last phase of the work in the Working Groups ended with the approval by each Working Group on the collective amendments, through an absolute majority ballot, and given by the Relators of the Working Groups to the General Secretariat of the Synod of the Bishops, on Wednesday in the evening at the end of the discussion in the Working Groups.

The result of the work of the General Relator with the Special Secretary, the Relators of the Working Groups and some expert will be presented in the form of a Final List of Propositions, during the Twenty-first General Congregation today afternoon Friday October 21th 2005, with the balloting foreseen during the Twenty.-second and last General Congregation tomorrow morning Saturday October 22th 2005.

Indeed. Clearly, a case of too much time on ones hands if this was an "issue". Some folks are spending too much time worrying about 'being inclusive', 'dialoging', 'being sensitive' while the house is falling down around them.
