....Very Weird 'Stuff'.....joint-diversity.
Judas was among the Apostles, so why would a church be surprised to find a wolf among the flock?
Here's an interesting one:
According to a report by Wichita TV station KAKE, Rader's daughter alerted authorities with her suspicions about her father and gave them a DNA sample, which helped police tie the murders to Rader. Link
It's ELCA, but I'm not gloating. This could happen anywhere.
I heard that on the radio the other day.
Her story as to why she suspected him would be interesting to hear.
"Lutepisc." That works, and it's a good inside joke for us Scandinavian Lutherans.
I think you have hit the nail on the head...I am sure, that every church has its own members, who present themselves to the church on Sunday, and at other church functions, as being one way, and yet in other parts of their life, they may be disgusting human beings....
The Catholic Church has had its problems with the priests abusing children, and there are those who are quick to say that the Catholic Church has brought this on themselves, by requiring celibacy in the priests...what nonsense(and no, I am not Catholic)...I just have enough sense to realize that it is wrong to blame a whole church for the actions of one of its members...
Disgusting, repulsive, even criminal people may be in every single church and religion known...they are a small minority, to be sure, but they are probably there, amongst many of us, and we dont know it...
My sympathies to his church. This must be devastating to his fellow worshippers.
It's just an excuse for some to bash this ELCA church. Unreal.
I'd almost be afraid to hear the story of why she suspected her father, and what would then have led her to turn him in.
In traditional Japanese society wouldn't a caring daughter have have given him the face-saving opportunity of solitude, a robe, and a knife?
do you remember Jesus' parable of "the wheat and the tares?"
All I need to know is "did he vote for Bush?"
If the answer is "yes", then he's OK. < /sarcasm>
So it seems...and if you think about it, had the article mentioned that BTK did not belong to any organized church or religion, then posters would be screaming about that being the reason he was a killer...they would moan, "Oh, if only he belonged to a good local church, this never would have happened"...which of course, is nothing but wishful thinking...
Somehow people think that serial killers, or pedophiles, or rapists, or any criminal for that matter, has a certain 'look' about them...again, that is nothing but wishful thinking...
What is so scarey about serial killers, and pedophiles and rapists, and other criminals, is that so very often they 'look' normal, they 'act' normal, when around normal people...they are adept at hiding their dark, disgusting side, and that is what makes them so dangerous...they look like everybody else...just a face in the crowd...
That is what makes life so scarey...one just never knows for sure, about other people...its sad, but we must be on guard at all times, with ourselves, our loved ones and especially our children...
Only vaguely, I must admit...would appreciate your applying it to this thread...

Jesus' parable related to this earlier comment of yours.
Matthew 13:24-4324 Another parable He put forth to them, saying: "The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field; 25 but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went his way.26 But when the grain had sprouted and produced a crop, then the tares also appeared. 27 So the servants of the owner came and said to him, 'Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have tares?'
28 He said to them, 'An enemy has done this.'
The servants said to him, 'Do you want us then to go and gather them up?'
29 But he said, 'No, lest while you gather up the tares you also uproot the wheat with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest, and at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, "First gather together the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn." ' "
And His disciples came to Him, saying, "Explain to us the parable of the tares of the field."
37 He answered and said to them: "He who sows the good seed is the Son of Man. 38 The field is the world, the good seeds are the sons of the kingdom, but the tares are the sons of the wicked one. 39 The enemy who sowed them is the devil, the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are the angels.
40 Therefore as the tares are gathered and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of this age. 41 The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who practice lawlessness, 42 and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth. 43 Then the righteous will shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears to hear, let him hear! .
"Just days before his arrest, Rader brought spaghetti sauce and salad to a church supper..."
Maybe they could bring that up at the sentencing.
"The very foundation of our faith is shaken..."
Sounds like they had the wrong foundation.
spaghetti sauce is scary stuff in this context...:>)
Thank you....it does seem to apply to this situation...good and bad, side by side, for a while at least...at least, that is how, ,with my limited Biblical knowledge, am reading this...
