What a Godly man. We should pray that other such men and women become leaders in our nation.
imho:
Some good points.
Some personal opinions--thankfully, mostly stated as personal opinions in contrast to so many on your ping list.
Some hogwash.
An elder in my former church was diagnosed with lung cancer. It was a solid diagnosis, complete with a positive biopsy. He was given very little chance to live, but the doctors decided to entirely remove the cancerous lung in hopes that the cancer could be arrested. In the weeks leading up to surgery the entire church prayed for him. Even though I was a stupid teenager at the time I felt strongly led to pray, and I did.
On the day of the surgery, they took a preliminary x-ray. To the shock of the doctors, there was no cancer present! They perfomed a second biopsy and came up negative. He was completely cured, and soon his symptoms were gone and he went back to work.
Two years later, he was killed when a very large piece of equipment with no prior history of stability problems tipped over onto him. Whatever it was God had preserved him for was done, and his mission was ended.
Yeah but there's more money and less training in becoming a good faith healer than a good surgeon.
May God have mercy on you when your judgmentalism begins to come home to roost.
You, too, are vulnerable to reaping what you have sown.
And God was glorified.
Amen!
Pardner, in these parts making sweeping genralizations about whole groups of posters ain't gentle, especially when you don't produce any evidence or specifics.
I checked you FR page, and your preferred pastime seems to be shouting down brothers and sisters in Christ who strike you as being too "RELIGIOUS". I guess everybody has to have a hobby, but as far as hobbies go, that one is pretty abrasive.
Ive certainly experienced firsthand having my eyes pop out of their sockets at Gods handywork
....I married her ;)
When a faith healer commands God to perform a miracle, in the absence of a prayer that says, "thy will be done," it is, as far as I am concerned, the most rank form of arrogance.
even with that preface - I dont care for it personally as it has the potential to turn God into a favor tool - who are we to command God ?
Ive seen some ask for the laying of hands for elective surgery - and liposuction at that -
I think prayer is a much more effective means of communicating with the Father - after all - why concern ourselves with the mortal, when we are clothed in the immortal ? - But its a fine line I know - and it does have it's applications (though highly limited IMO) - but even at that I personally feel it has roots in self centeredness.
That said - Ive also seen instances where prayer requests are made and the congregation spontaneously lays hands in powerful prayer
I am good friends with a pre-WW2 Rolls Royce master mechanic - he suffers from asbestosis, lung cancer, polio, and parkinsons - still kickin', he attributes his continued survival to the power of all prayer and surrenduring his will to the Fathers - Im not aware of him ever having asked for the laying on of hands - but he asks for prayer continually.....and we oblige in love and faith
Their faith is built on hollow promises, theatrics, and emotion.
Mine is built on a solid foundation.
Welcome to FR.
I want to do un-Christian things to anyone who would say something like this to a child of God, especially after he has already robbed and defrauded him. How utterly vile. If the Lord does not have mercy on him, this filthy charletan will share the fate of the first liar.
Pretty predictable GC. You at least are rather consistent.
I think I understand your perspective and standards on the issue.
Not all that close to how I construe God's standards on such, to be, however.
