I believe God can and will use anyone to heal others, so just because people don't like the man doesn't mean people aren't getting healed.

No, but the fact that he can't document such healings, and that his teachings are riddled with heresy and just plain nonsense does, I think, lower the likelihood that God would cooperate in his parlor tricks.

Me too. Medved is awesome - probably the smartest and most articulate spokesman our side has. Exploring the Holy Land with his unique insights (historical, cultural, personal) would be awesome.

John Edward (there's no S in his name) is a total douchebag. He does cold readings that last FAR longer than what you see on TV, sometimes hours between successful hits, and he's not even all that good at it.
Come out to my booth at the Texas Renaissance Festival this season, and I will chill your spine far better than John Edward ever could.

I met a guy who used to work for the Reverend Leroy Jenkins. Boy you talk about some stories. He was a "cutter" that wen in and told sad stories to get the crowd going before the Reverend came in. I think Steve Martin formed his character in the movie he did a few years back on Mr. Jenkins.

He's not demon-possessed. If he were, it wouldn't take him six hours of studio time to get enough for a one-hour show.
He's just a douchebag. Look up "cold reading" and you'll find out how to learn to do what he does. And ten bucks says that inside a year, you can do it better than he does.

Ah, you have already learned his technique!
You'd be shocked how many people really do take him seriously. I had a co-worker at a former job who stayed home for a few weeks after minor surgery and came back raving about "this guy who's totally psychic."
When I explained cold reading to her, she was unconvinced. When I demonstrated it on her, she was shocked.

I just did a post-lunch Tarot reading for one of the secretaries up here. She thinks I'm tuned in to Occult Radio or something. She told me about how my last reading "all came true" - and sure enough, she took the VERY vague statements I made and applied them to whatever was going on that week, and decided I was stone correct.
Reputations for arcane knowledge come cheap!

No, they are for fraudulent fake-healing scams designed to milk desperate families out of the last of their precious financial resources and the last of their waning moments with their loved ones. Those who twist the Word to deceive and steal deserve a very special hellfire.

Jeeze, Thanks for the clairifacation. I thought that I was pretty clear I guess not. ;-) What do Benny Hinn and John Edwards have in common? Answer.. People who are emotionally in distress flock to them for help and answers and both end up costing you money. I bet Jesus did not charge people to do those things.

Don't get me wrong. I agree with you that God can perform miraculous healings, and that many have medical documentation to back them up. However, I don't believe a single one of Hinn's so-called miracles has ever been so verified, and I don't believe God performs miracles according to a TV broadcast schedule. Hinn long ago demonstrated himself to fall into the false prophet/teacher camp.
To: missyme
Mr. Hinn lives in a multi-million dollar house that he made his organization pay for; Some kind of 'spiritual' center. Dateline did a hidden camera expose on Mr. Hinn awhile back, to see how he picks who goes up on stage. They also interviewed some people regarding 'healings';a couple people thought they had in fact been 'healed'. The majority of interviews were done with family members of 'healed' people who were shortly thereafter deceased.
I have heard that the reason people fall over like that is because of mass-hypnotism, either that or the principle of self-fulfillment, whereby a person believes he is supposed to 'feel' something; so he convinces himself that he 'feels' it.
My point, I guess, is that Mr. Hinn has gotten very rich off of Jesus Christ. If he loves Jesus so much, where's the sacrifice? Why the fancy suits, the media-hogging, the big house?
The biggest problem I have with Mr. Hinn is that he, and other 'healers' put a big emphasis on praying over people and fixing them. As in, we're going to invoke the Holy Spirit over your deformed leg, and you're gonna get up and walk away.
If the person DOESN'T get up, then that person must have a 'demon'. Or that person must not 'really believe.'
Its a denial of the merits of suffering, of how suffering can be a sign of sanctity. Suffering can be a GIFT. A good thing that can benefit people. Its not meaningless. Thats why Jesus did what he did; to make our suffering MEAN something. But there's none of that in Benny Hinn. Its all about getting rid of this horrible pain which must be a curse from God. What about the cross? What about "you mustn't take away my little cross"? Fans of the Little Flower will know what I'm talking about.
People can believe what they want to believe. But it is a privilege beyond any other privilege to suffer; to be so close to Christ that He permits you to endure a small part of what He did on the cross. Running a Christian ministry and brushing that under the rug is just plain wrong.

Cold reading is a pretty fun thing to do to people. A cousin of mine taught me how to do it one summer, and I spent a few months using it on my friends.
If you know the tricks, you can turn it around on them. Great fun at country fairs.
