The Day of Your Death

The Day of Your Death

Friend, will you ponder some words of truth, though you be up in years, or yet in your youth? With each passing day your life spins by, Death creeps closer till it's your turn to die. On your bed of death the thought comes to mind - all your dear loved ones you must leave behind. They speak words of comfort and try not to cry, but there is no comfort; it's your turn to die. As you reflect upon many wasted years, your poor heart saddens and your eyes fill with tears. You spent so much time for family and friends, yet so little time being grieved for your sins. You sped through your years consuming worldly pleasures, yet never investing in Heavenly treasures. With these sobering thoughts you begin to grow scared; it's your turn to die, and you have not prepared!

Year after year you rejected God's Son; over and over the Gospel you would shun. God's Spirit which spoke to your once tender heart has now been replaced with Satan's stinging dart. Like a tale which is told, your life has flown by, your days are expired, and it's your turn to die. A piercing chill suddenly fills the air while Death enters the room like a strange nightmare. But this is no dream, the time has arrived; you'll die in a moment to never be revived. All loved ones fade as Death closes in; your body lies helpless, and you cannot win. With one final struggle you gasp for your breath to find your soul in the arms of Death!

As loved ones gaze upon your lifeless frame, your soul makes its journey to the Land of the Flame. "Why me?" you cry, "I wasn't that bad!" But then you recall all the chances you had. Time and time again God's humble servants came - offering you salvation in Jesus' name. But you cared not for God's holy plan; you despised His servants, and from His truth you ran. Now as your feet sink into the flame, all hope is gone to trust in His name. Deeper you go into the fiery bath, having traded God's mercy for His never-ending wrath. While horror fills your soul and the pain multiplies, your screams simply fade into the smoke-filled skies. As you wade through the flames seeking consolation, those you encounter have the same condemnation.

There's no one to help, there's nowhere to turn; refuge has fled, and you're left here to burn! As your loved ones back home in the world above comfort one another with words of love, They're all unaware of your sad plight beneath, of your weeping, your wailing, and your gnashing teeth! They'll soon gently lay your body in the ground, but of your screams below they won't hear a sound. Never again will you see a smiling face, only faces of agony in this damnable place. No children playing with whom to share your love, not another second with your sweetheart above. No food to eat, no water in sight, forever you're a captive to Hell's dark night! Sunsets have vanished, no mountains, no streams, only roaring flames and soul-piercing screams! At last you now see your error so well: when you said "No" to Jesus, you said "Yes" to Hell.

If you have to terrorize people into converting then there is a serious problem with the message.

"At last you now see your error so well: when you said "No" to Jesus, you said "Yes" to Hell."

Hmmm, sounds like whoever wrote this believes our works (saying "Yes" to Jesus) is what will save us. Hence, he believes in a 'works-based' religion and, thus, should be condemned.

Ohhhhhh! Now I get it.

And here I thought it was "he who dies with the most toys...."

I think you copy/paste more from biblebelievers.com than catholics do from newadvent. :-)

Weren't you one of the ones who had a problem with the graphic (realistic) depiction od Christ's suffering in the "Passion" movie?

Thanks, Mack. Among the many things that sets Christianity above the rest is the unique and certain knowledge that the best is yet to be.

"MORTALITY -- CHRISTIANS NEED NOT FEAR DEATH" by J.I. Packer

~~"For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body. PHILIPPIANS 1:21-24"~~

We do not know how humans would have left this world had there been no Fall; some doubt whether they ever would have done so. But as it is, the separation of body and soul through bodily death, which is both sin's fruit and God's judgment (Gen. 2:17; 3:19, 22; Rom. 5:12; 8:10; 1 Cor. 15:21), is one of life's certainties. This separating of the soul (person) from the body is a sign and emblem of the spiritual separation from God that first brought about physical death (Gen. 2:17; 5:5) and that will be deepened after death for those who leave this world without Christ.
Naturally, therefore, death appears as an enemy (1 Cor. 15:26) and a terror (Heb. 2:15).

For Christians the terror of physical death is abolished, though the unpleasantness of dying remains. Jesus, their risen Savior, has himself passed through a more traumatic death than any Christian will ever have to face, and he now lives to support his servants as they move out of this world to the place he has prepared for them in the next world (John 14:2-3). Christians should view their own forthcoming death as an appointment in Jesus' calendar, which he will faithfully keep. Paul could say, "For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.... I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far" (Phil. 1:21, 23), since "away from the body" will mean "at home with the Lord" (2 Cor. 5:8).

At death the souls of believers (i.e., the believers themselves, as ongoing persons) are made perfect in holiness and enter into the worshiping life of heaven (Heb. 12:22-24). In other words, they are glorified. Some, not believing this, posit a purgatorial discipline after death that is really a further stage of sanctification, progressively purifying the heart and refining the character in preparation for the vision of God. But this belief is neither scriptural nor rational, for if at Christ's coming saints alive on earth will be perfected morally and spiritually in the moment of their bodily transformation (1 Cor. 15:51-54), it is only natural to suppose that the same is done for each believer in the moment of death, when the mortal body is left behind. Others posit unconsciousness (soul sleep) between death and resurrection, but Scripture speaks of conscious relationship, involvements, and enjoyments (Luke 16:22; 23:43; Phil. 1:23; 2 Cor. 5:8; Rev. 6:9-11; 14:13).

Death is decisive for destiny. After death there is no possibility of salvation for the lost (Luke 16:26)—from then on both the godly and the ungodly reap what they sowed in this life (Gal. 6:7-8).

Death is gain for believers (Phil. 1:21) because after death they are closer to Christ. But disembodiment, as such, is not gain; bodies are for expression and experience, and to be without a body is to be limited, indeed impoverished. This is why Paul wants to be "clothed" with his resurrection body (i.e., re-embodied) rather than be "unclothed" (i.e., disembodied, 2 Cor. 5:1-4). To be resurrected for the life of heaven is the true Christian hope. As life in the "intermediate" or "interim" state between death and resurrection is better than the life in this world that preceded it, so the life of resurrection will be better still. It will, in fact, be best. And this is what God has in store for all his children (2 Cor. 5:4-5; Phil. 3:20-21). Hallelujah!

Thanks for the words of a man, but I depend on the bible alone for my theology.

The man who wrote these words seems to rely on terror and damnation scaring people into believing in God's Word. Is that faith?

Jude 1:22 And of some have compassion, making a difference:
