Gibson Changes Movie Name to "The Passion of Christ"; Will Add Subtitles
EWTN ^ | 10/16/03 | EWTN

Mel Gibson is changing the name of his movie, "The Passion," to "The Passion of Christ" because another movie by the same name is currently in production. He is looking into whether the title, "The Passion," can be used overseas.

Mel has also decided to use subtitles in his movie.

     news brief on EWTN

Not really a ping, just an FYI as reported by EWTN.

How many days kstew?  ;-)   I am really looking forward to the release... I am self-appointed coordinator of a *big* family night out (hubby, sibs, nieces, nephews); the subtitles will help garner the attention of the otherwise disinclined young 'ens.

What a sloth! Learn Arimaic in anticipation of the movie!

Aramaic would be more helpful.

Funny thing is I know a man who actually does speak Aramaic. I'll have discuss the film with him after we've both seen it.

What I'm wondering is whether or not to take my 11-year-old. ... Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Mel Gibson during his EWTN interview made a recommendation of 12 or older.  I think that he presented the opinion as a parent "in the know".   :-)

Your plan of seeing it first is an excellent idea and will better help you decide, and if in doubt afterwards, go with what Mel says.

My kids have seen the film "teaser" that is on the Internet. My 14 1/2 year old daughter watched it but my 10 year old son turned away because it made him too sad. I'll give him the option of going to the movie (otherwise he'd be upset his older sister can go but he can't) since he knows what it's about, but I think he'll decline.

It may be better for the younger kids to watch this when it comes out on video and you are sitting with them in a loving family environment.

I think viewing it first is a good idea. Then if you decide to take her you can talk before and after.

My 21 year old still faints at the sight of bloody and talk about such injuries. I'm not sure she could make it through it. Even a verbal description of the crucifixion make her light headed.

*** I will go with a big knot in my stomach and a big wad of tissues in my purse. ***

Is any other response appropriate? I think not.

How about a huge lumping of guilt too? As Mel Gibson so eloquently put, we nailed him to that cross. A little aside, the hands that hammer the nails into Christ, they belong to Mel Gibson, he said he used his hands cause it was his sin. Really a powerful statement, so true.

I plan to see it. An easy thing for us in the "modern" world to forget is how awful Roman crucifixian was. You died of blood loss, or starvation, or by suffication. It is not a quick death. I am at work, so I don't have the hyper link, but a doctor has a website that details all the things that can happen to a person being crucified.

That doesn't even touch the wipping. The Romans had a way of whipping that would flay flesh off the bone. Not something for young children, but something I think all Christains should see and understand. When Jesus died for us, it was a horrible, painful, and long death.

Wow. It made me teary-eyed just reading your post. I'll probably bawl like a baby, too. I'm doing good every Easter if I can get through singing that old Black gospel hymn, "Were you there when they cruicified my Lord?" My emotions are so close to the suface right now witnessing the way that my beloved Episcopal Church, The Body of Christ, is being crucified again, I'm not sure I'm up to it.

I think it is very important to do whatever we all can to support this movie, as there still is no distributor, and to ensure that "The Passion of Christ" will be shown in a movie theatre in each of our home towns we need to show support :-)

I understand the movie "The Gospel of John" was only being shown in a few selective theatres across the U.S but because of the overwhelming response to the film it is scheduled to be shown in many other cities before the end of the year.

Praise the Lord! we finally are exposing Jesus to the secular world in major motion pictures and hopefully it
will bring the lost to open there hearts to our lord!

The idea of a well-done, big budget movie finally strictly adhering to the Bible events it's portraying is one long overdue. I am a bit disappointed about the subtitles though. I bet they'll be optional on the DVD.

Let the masses who don't bother to read really see what happened. Let those non-reading Christians truly appreciate what Christ did for them spiritually. Let non-Christians at least truly appreciate what a great man he was and what he did -- the immense faith he had and sacrifice he endured for his beliefs. He can be a model for anyone, regardless of religion.

I cannot wait to see this movie, and I'm an atheist.
