State Dept Map: Curiously Incomplete
Little Green Footballs ^ | 10/12/03 | Charles Johnson

Posted on 10/12/2003 2:13:16 PM PDT by adam_az

The State Department’s map of Saudi Arabia finds space for the name of every nearby country in the region.

Except one. Guess which one.

(Hat tip: tomcat.)

This is really outrageous; some of you may remember the BMW and Mercedes dealership maps that caused a huge scandal.

This is much worse. This is our government. The United States. Knuckling under to the rotten bastards who sponsor world-wide hatred and terrorism—the bastards who took down the World Trade Center.

This makes me very angry indeed.

The name of the "missing" country could have at least been initialized as the "Z.E." Disgusting.

It not only makes me angry--it makes me ill. This from the country that is supposedly Israel's best friend. It is time the American administration wakes up and realizes they do not have any friends or trustworthy allies in the Arab world. They have just one in the Middle East whom they won't even name.

Will the next State Department map show Israel as "Palestine" or "Zionist Entity"?

Actually, the name is merely wrong. They misnamed it Med Sea.

No, seriously, I'm a RZB (Rotten Zionist Bastard) and I don't see a big problem here. There wasn't the room nor was Israel the focus of the map. More an oversight than a slight, I'd wager.

In all of the other maps, they go out of their way to show the country name. They MADE room for Bahrain and Qatar, and made room for a sliver of Egypt. They had room for Lebanon which is a smaller country. They could have written it across the Sinai... ;)

Seriously, look at the other maps of other countries and you will see they go out of their way to label countries in every other map.

The map posted above is a map of Saudi Arabia. A more relevant State Department map is the regional map of the Near East.

I don't agree. They found room to identify Lebanon - smaller area on the map.

"There wasn't the room nor was Israel the focus of the map. More an oversight than a slight, I'd wager."

That State Department map is a copy of this CIA World Factbook map:

Notice, however, that the CIA map labels Israel, whereas the State Dept. map was specifically edited to remove that name. Maybe it was a slight, or maybe State thinks that it's more important to tell people that Jordan is on the Mediterranean rather than that Israel is near Saudi Arabia. Regardless, "oversight" isn't an option.

It's also noticeable that the State Department and all the media instantly adjusted their maps when China conquered Tibet. Practically the next day, Tibet was a part of China. None of that weasel wording about the status of Tibet is still to be determined.

A Map of Jordan:

Notice that it has a capital.

A Map of Israel:

Where is Israel's capital?
