In a discussion related to comparing White House communications offices in Dem and GOP administrations, CBS News Chief White House correspondent Bill Plante said last week:
"The media is mostly left-leaning. It is difficult to turn out graduates in majors relating to the media who are at the right of the political spectrum. So the media gets to be leaning to the liberal side. ...The Democratic party sees the media as their ally."
Obviously he has not read the various temper tantrums thrown by the likes of Eric Alterman who insist the media is not liberal.

"...The Democratic party sees the media as their ally."The Democrats should be very grateful...the media is the only thing propping them up these days--they have no real issues, as is so evident in the debates

The reporters are, but thank sweet Jesus Christ the owners aren't. Rupert Murdoch and Jack Welch and the new guy at GE (they own all the NBC's) are all conservatives. They keep things in line, and well they should, if this report is true.
Bill O'Reilly said (in his new book) that while he worked at ABC, he had trouble getting stories about working people on the air. The people upstairs didn't like "populist" stories. He said every now and then that he and Peter Jennings would get one on anyway. But for the most part, I think corporate office has done a pretty good job keeping blatant socialism off the air.

.....The Democratic party sees the media as their ally....
I would argue this is misstated. The DNC sees the media as a tool for propagandizing an unwitting public. An alliance implies equals in an endeavor. There is no such alliance. The leftists are leftists are leftists.
The propaganda engine is failing. The current job it to convey the absence of an imminent threat. The message is getting across as was the message about the lack of Gravitas. The public knows better and the entirte effort is unable to convince them to swallow the lie.

Did anybody else notice on "The Capital Gang" on CNN last night Mark Shields' comments on how Rumsfield is upset about Rice being the head of the group to stabilize Iraq? Shields stated it was because Rumsfield was beaten by a "girl". My American Heritage Dictionary has a girl as "An immature or inexperienced woman...". I noticed Shields did not say a black girl because then he might have been fired ala Limbaugh. But then there is no bigotry or bias at CNN (HA HA HA).

Just damn.
If you want on the new list, FReepmail me. This IS a high-volume PING list...
[As i mentioned, the B/C & JD! lists are going to float into and out of whack over the forseeable future, while I try to cobble a rig back together for myself. My apologies for any incovenience or misunderstandings in this time frame. New signups/removals may be flaky in this time-frame as well; please bear with me, and keep in mind you may have to FReepmail me more than once for me to get it done. Thanks again!]

One could wish that there hadn't been a car bombing in Baghdad this morning outside a hotel. It kind of undermines this fine cartoon.
Why don't we just look at the situation as it actually is, with no agenda either way, for once. It's not a quagmire. But it's not going as well as we hoped, with absolutely everyone delighted we're there, either.

Hey, considering who's saying it, this is pretty remarkable. Admitting the media is liberal/left and an ally of the dems. Who does he think he is?
Bernie Goldberg?

But it's not going as well as we hoped Not as well as we hoped and probably not much worse or better than expected. Hope is always for better than likely.

I didn't watch "The Capital Gang" but on Fox's more civilized equivalent, "Fox News Watch," Neil Gabler was having a hissy fit over the fact that Arnold Schwarzenegger had appeared on Jay Leno's show. He didn't mention that Howard Dean has also been on The Tonight Show recently, or that the Hildabeast appeared on David Letterman's program during her Senate campaign (complete with Secret Service threats against anyone in the audience who might make any noises that would displease Her Heinous).
To: ChemistCat
as well as we had hoped?
Who is we? I've always expected it to go the way it is going. Actually, I expected it to be worse. President Bush made it clear that this would be a difficult task. When compared to other wars, this is going very well.

Maybe he read "Slander" by Ann Coulter....

"But it's not going as well as we hoped."
Speak for yourself. It's going far better than I dared to -dream-. And I supported the war from the beginning. This is a 2-year-old's birthday party with clowns and cupcakes compared to any other historical occupation/reconstruction. What historical perspective were you using to set your expectations? It's probably not any major urban center in the U.S., where I suspect simple crime results in more deaths.
Every death is tragic, but I can think of a hundred thousand ways it could have gone significantly worse, and no way in which it could be significantly better. Far as I'm concerned, even acknowledging every last death and injury, this has been Operation Mind-Boggingly Staggering Success.
Will that continue? We can hope so. But it would have to be worse than this by about 10 orders of magnitude before I'd call this anything even remotely like a quagmire.
