A St. Louis circuit judge may rule today on whether Missouri's law allowing qualified residents to carry concealed guns should go into effect on Saturday.

Judge Steven Ohmer, who heard initial arguments Thursday in a lawsuit challenging the law, said he would conduct an additional hearing today on a claim that the law is unconstitutional.

This is backed by the democrats in St. Louis and Kansas City. They are using the Rev's to hide their fingerprints but the Demoncrat lawmakers and Jay Nixon should look out when the next election cycle comes about. A majority of Missourians are tired of St. Louis and Kansas City telling us how to run the state for their benefit.

Don't know how, I figure he is going to put a temporary injunction in place and then say the Missour Supreme Court needs to be the one to settle it. That way they hold up the law, and get several months before it will be heard by the court.

Judge: State's ending free Medicaid dental, eyeglass care illegal

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- A St. Louis judge on Monday ordered the state of Missouri, in two separate lawsuits, to provide free dental care and prescription eyeglasses for hundreds of thousands of poor Missourians on Medicaid.

Circuit Judge Steven Ohmer ruled that the Missouri Department of Social Services violated state law when it ended dental and eyeglass services for adults on Medicaid due to legislative budget cuts.

The honorable Judge

Circuit Court
St. Louis City
Steven Russell Ohmer
The Honorable Steven Ohmer, an associate circuit judge in St. Louis City since 1994, has been appointed by Governor Carnahan to replace the retiring Circuit Judge Floyd McBride. Judge McBride retired in early August. Judge Ohmer was elevated to the circuit bench and assumed his new duties upon Judge McBride's retirement.

Currently, Judge Ohmer is still in Division 29, a civil trial docket and Judge McBride presided over Division 11, which is a criminal assignment. Ohmer will continue in Division 29 until his replacement is named. At that time, he will move over to Judge McBride's courtroom to finish the year in criminal court. Thereafter, Ohmer will assume a two-year assignment in the city family court in Division 15.

Ohmer is a native of St. Louis, growing up in South County. He left St. Louis to play baseball at Florida State University, then and still one of the top college baseball programs in the country. Having made the team as a freshman playing third base, Judge Ohmer continued with the program for two years. The reality of long hours of practice virtually year round ultimately led Ohmer, like Moonlight Graham, to forego his dream in pursuit of other professional callings.

Graduating from Florida State with a B.S. degree in Economics and History, Ohmer ultimately decided to attend law school based upon the advice and guidance of his uncle, Jim Thomas and his cousins Rich Callahan and Charles Ohmer. Thomas encouraged Ohmer to attend Creighton University, and so Ohmer left behind the Sunshine State and packed up for Nebraska.

Upon graduating from law school in 1979, Ohmer decided that a trial practice would give him the most well-rounded experience and career flexibility, so he returned to St. Louis, accepting a job with the City Circuit Attorney's Office. He prosecuted cases for four years and then decided to give private practice a try.

Ohmer spent the next four years practicing with his cousin, Charles Ohmer. The private practice allowed Ohmer to experience a diverse mix of civil and criminal matters. Ultimately however, he was drawn back to public service and the prosecutor's office. In 1987, Ohmer returned to the Circuit Attorney's Office and became the Chief Warrant Officer, responsible for initiating all state criminal prosecutions for the City of St. Louis.

Being Chief Warrant Officer refined Ohmer's sense of fairness and justice, and he views it as the best possible preparation for his future career as a judge. The Warrant Officer position also required decisiveness and accountability for those decisions, further important judicial qualities.

In 1994, Ohmer left the Circuit Attorney's Office to put his judicial talents to use as an associate circuit judge. In the six years he has served as associate circuit judge, Ohmer has handled every possible assignment, from domestic relations and adult abuse, criminal preliminary hearings through felony jury trials, and civil small claims to civil jury trials. That background and experience undoubtedly justified Ohmer's promotion and the governor's decision.

In 1998, Judge Ohmer was honored to be appointed by Supreme Court Judge Duane Benton to the Missouri Supreme Court's Circuit Court Budget Committee, which is charged with overseeing and maintaining the budget for the circuit courts throughout the state of Missouri. In 1999, Ohmer prepared a chapter on Landlord-Tenant law in Missouri for the Bench Book for Missouri Trial Judges, a key reference source for the judiciary.

Judge Ohmer is married to Roberta Marie Cassulo, a librarian at Meramec Community College, and they have two daughters, Rachel and Rebecca. Both daughters are currently contemplating their future education, although at different levels. Rachel is in high school and is beginning a search for colleges, while Rebecca, a pre-schooler, has a few years to go before the first grade.

I think the Missouri sheriffs departments are collecting a $100 fee to process the paperwork for gun permits. The first 4 hour course here in Camden County is tomorrow.

There's a group of churches in Minnesota that are trying to get our CCW law overturned because they don't like the rules about the signage needed to "Ban guns on these premises".

I haven't seen the names of these churches, but I'm guessing they are all "Liberal leaning", pro-gay marriage, anti-gun, "let's rewrite the bible", type of churches.

Another reason they want to shut down this particular CCW--

Trend in concealed gun laws: Conceal who has permits
By SCOTT CHARTON
Associated Press Writer

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - Something will be concealed besides pistols when Missouri sheriffs begin issuing permits this month to pack hidden handguns: the names of a projected 60,000 gun licensees.

I think ya'll ought to send all these obstructors on a six month ice fishing trip to Alaska. It will serve two purposes: 1. they can really chill out and 2. they can get first hand knowledge just how "nutty" and "dangerous" citizens with non-restricted carry are.
