Davis losing among blue-collar base

Recapturing the loyalty of blue-collar and moderate-income Democrats has emerged as one of Gov. Davis' most pressing problems as the recall election approaches. In both public and private polls, Democrats with less income and education have displayed much higher support for the recall than more affluent and college-educated party members. Even Democrats who belong to labor unions, ordinarily one of the party's most loyal constituencies, have been abandoning the governor in greater numbers than other Democrats, according to the most recent Los Angeles Times poll.
"There's no burning enthusiasm for the governor," acknowledged Miguel Contreras, executive secretary and treasurer of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor.
The problem has not been that blue-collar Democrats are more strongly drawn to Arnold Schwarzenegger, the leading Republican candidate to replace Davis. In the most recent Times Poll, conducted from Sept. 25 through 29, Schwarzenegger drew the same level of support from Democrats with and without a college degree: 15%.

At the same time, the adviser said, college-educated and more affluent Democrats appear more receptive to Davis' portrayal of the recall as part of a systematic Republican drive to overturn Democratic gains through means such as the impeachment of former President Bill Clinton. Wow..these so-called college-educated demos might want to get their money back from their universities..the impeachment of bill clinton was NOT a GOP power grab..had clinton been convicted in the US Senate, DEMOCRAT al gore would become president..not any republican..jeez

In a report that was filed with the LA Times several years ago, and apparently spiked, there was documentation, names, times, places, where Gray Davis had shown a truly vicious and near-uncontrollable rage at his office staff, using profanities and vulgarities when getting news that seemed to be negative, screaming at and treating roughly some of his female subordinates, to the point where one of his older long-time administrative assistants asked never to be in the same room with him again.
The LA Times editorial board thought the story was "too controversial" and "not relevant".
Of course.

I don't know about you, but in terms of judging someone's qualifications to lead, I'd count these as a lot more serious than the petty sexual harassment Arnold's being accused of.
Have the accusations and dirt now ended? I'm not seeing any new stories.

The irony is that if Clinton had been forced out in 1998 or 1999, Gore would not only have become President, but would have had a better chance of winning in 2000...so he would probably be President now (as horrible as that is to contemplate).
