[history]
The governor's cabinet, which rarely meets, is scheduled to convene Wednesday at 4 p.m., according to a source in the governor's office. They will be joined by all the other department directors at 4:45 p.m. In other news from the gov's inner sanctum, the New York Times reports that Davis aides have ordered storage boxes from the state archives and a list of approved vendors for shredding documents.

We know what attracts flies, and Grayout certainly is full of it.

I still think it is too easy to fake absentee ballots in CA and that Davis will "win" the recall vote. But maybe they can't quite be sure and need a plan B. It is an encouraging sign to see the shredders brought in.

Couldn't some nonprofit tax payer's org file a class action suit to preserve documents?
Perhaps even call in Fed marshals or some such to guard the files in the transition?

Someone needs to do some serious research about what a recalled guv can do before the new one is sworn in.
We could be seeing another Clinton Executive Order and pardons nightmare.
A restraining order demanding that no data of any kind be destroyed would be a good start.
A protest throng outside the guv's mansion with people shouting "get out of Arnold's house" would also be helpful.
Scheduling the inauguration on October 9 at 12:01 am would also be a good thing.
Dang, wish it were in CA during the next few days.

Quix, you're right. There should be an immediate protective order from a court regarding shredding or removing documents. Looks like there's enough evidence this might happen.
I don't know if an order can be based on speculation....probably not.....but there has to be a way.
Perhaps a freeper legal eagle can weigh in here.

I don't know when the new guv gets sworn in. We need serious legal help here.

Couldn't a court order be granted?

From the Sacramento Bee Q and A Recall page:
Q: What happens if a majority votes to recall the governor? A: Davis would continue as governor until the results are certified, which could take up to Nov. 15. Counties have up to 28 days to complete an official canvass of the results and seven additional days to get approval from their boards of supervisors. The secretary of state then has four days to certify the election -- a total of 39 days after the vote. In addition, the winning candidate can take up to 10 more days after the results are certified to be sworn in.

How about a warrant instead on RICO charges over the manipulation of electricity prices?

If you recall how much damage Clinton did in the 70 or so days between the election and inauguration, imagine what Davis can do in 45 days or so when he REALLY doesn't care what people think about him in the future, and only wants to put as many roadblocks in Arnold's way as possible. Look at what he and the Dem assembly have done since the wriring has been on the wall.
Dick Celeste in OH in about 1988 (Dem of course) pardoned convicted murderers and other low-lifes simply because they were women. If I remember correctly he wasn't even asked.
To: jwalburg
Of course, this time table doesn't take into consideration the COURT CHALLENGES that will naturally follow, so we're looking at a good long time.

I think this needs doing, Quix, not to get Davis - but to preserve info that Arnold's administration will need. Obviously, an orderly transfer of power is the last thing the Davis people have in mind.
