Put past to rest, Hatch says of Arnold

Photo Caption: Arnold Schwarzenegger and Orrin Hatch share a laugh in Salt Lake City in 1994 when the actor campaigned for Hatch.
At the time Pat Shea, Hatch's opponent, criticized Schwarzenegger's treatment of women.

WASHINGTON -- Sen. Orrin Hatch says Arnold Schwarzenegger should not be judged on past improper advances towards women but as the devoted husband he is today, adding that the foreign-born GOP candidate for California governor also should have the opportunity to run for president under a constitutional amendment Hatch is pushing.

"We have to look at people who they are today, not what they may have done wrong in the past," Hatch told the National Press Club Friday. "There isn't a person in this room or anywhere else in the world who is perfect, who has lived perfectly."

The movie-star body builder stumped for Hatch's 1994 re-election campaign when he joined the Utah Republican at an awards ceremony at a Salt Lake City fitness equipment factory and taunted "hasta la vista, baby" to Hatch's Democratic challenger, Pat Shea. Shea said Schwarzenegger's appearance was offensive because of his movies' "terrible treatment of women" and found it "ironic that Hatch, who promotes himself as a true feminist, would bring one of the leading media promoters of misogyny to Utah."

In answer to a question posed by reporters Friday, Hatch noted that Schwarzenegger has said most of the groping allegations detailed between 1975 and 2000 in a Thursday Los Angeles Times story are not true "but he's apologized for acting improperly at times in the past."

"My experience with him is he's a very nice man, very talented," said Hatch. "He's a very bright guy who is devoted to his wife and I know a little bit about the family. As you know, I get chewed up all the time for being a friend of Ted Kennedy."

Schwarzenegger is married to the Democratic Massachusetts senator's niece Maria Shriver.

Hatch called Schwarzenegger a "tough guy" who has guts to take on Democratic Gov. Gray Davis and predicted the star of such films as "Terminator" will herald a new political leadership style.

"If he gets the chance, he's not going to be a namby-pamby out there," said Hatch. "I think you're going to find there's going to be some new leadership that a lot of other people might emulate in this society."

Hatch has introduced a resolution to amend the Constitution's ban on non-American-born presidents by allowing people who have been U.S. citizens for at least 20 years to be elected to the White House. While the measure was not introduced with Schwarzenegger in mind, Hatch said the Austrian-born superstar would be a perfect example of why the constitutional amendment is needed.

"If Arnold Schwarzenegger turns out to be the greatest governor of California, which I hope he will, if he turns out to be a tremendous leader and he proves to everybody in this country that he's totally dedicated to this country as an American . . . we would be wrong not to give him that opportunity," said Hatch.

Hatch, you are not only an a new world order a-hole,...but this is an incredibly dangerous idea. If any of you Arnold worshipers haven't realized it yet,...Schwarzengroper is being groomed for it all. ...Unless something is done,...it's all over but the crying.

This is nothing more than propaganda and the so called "Mainstream Media & Press" and their agenda for America.
It is a known fact the so called major News Organizations
in America are liberal and have an agenda. They have brainwashed and continues to do so.They can only survive through out taking their papers and charging fees according to their circulation. I havent bought a newspaper in over 5 years and have not bought a major one in over 10 years.
Your so called major newspapers in New York and Los Angeles have been proven to be liars and to have a major liberal agenda. Not long ago it came out that reporters in Iraq covered up for Saddam so you can see what talks, money and the liberal left media.
There is a vast conspiracy and it comes from the liberal media and the Democrats who want to overthrow America and insert their dictator.
The Democrats hate Bush because he really wants to protect America and apparently he will fight. The Democrats want to appease France and Germany along with the other scoundrels in the UN and these scoundrels have been delivering weapons to Iraq all along. With the Democrat agenda their buying of friends just buy enough time for them but eventually America will pay for these friends we have tried to buy over the years.
America needs to decide which way we are going to go and head there. You can probably count our true friends on one hand and we need to stick by them We alos need to stop the Democrats who have been taken over by the most radical ultra liberals in this country. They are trying to overthrow us through the court system and are doing a good job by filibustering all judges who are moderate to conservative. In my opinion the Democrat Party should be renamned the Communist Party of America. I trust Saddam more than I do any Democrat leader in this country and you dont see a moderate to conservative Democrat with the guts to take a stand and speak up so they are no different than the Republicans in Congress.
Those of us in America who have been here for generations are being sold out and soon we will be the minority and poorest class in America.

I'm not reading the article, because nothing Orrin Hatch says is worth the air it takes to say it.

"We have to look at people who they are today, not what they may have done wrong in the past,"

He should have added, "Otherwise we would have to run Robert Byrd out of town on a freakin' rail."

Lets quit knocking the old crew and start with new wins and grow from there.

Davis & Busty out of any top slot is a start.

Dreams are only dreams.

From the stands or the bench we acomplish zero and get run over while dreaming.

Simon and McClintock had their shots for years and we see their results.

If you did not want Arnold you should have run yourselves as you all have all the answers.

Time to get California business back in gear and cut the fat.

Or everyone can just sit and gripe about what they would have done sitting in their living rooms.

Next up is Boxer.

Let's do it.

I'm not reading the article, because nothing Orrin Hatch says is worth the air it takes to say it.

You and I think alike, but he does have power (stupid Utah) and was proposing as early as this spring for an Amendement to allow foreign born to be President...

Yeah, "decided the day he was on the Tonight Show"...Pete Wilson's entire team magically "appeared" the next day. The RNC wouldn't back the recall because of "liberal" California until a movie star got in...

All sounds perfect, just alittle too perfect. hmmmm
