Good Grief, the Chechnyans have casued more terrorism in Moscow than Bin Laden did in New York. They want to turn Chechnya into an Islamic State ruled by Sharia Law. It would be like Dearborn Michigan wanting to seceed from the U.S. to establish and Islamic country through terrorism. Russia is perfectly justified in defending it's home territory against the same enemy that wishes to destroy all of Western civilization.

This argument makes zero sense.
"Do they not suspect that the Afghan scenario is repeating itself? The Soviet Red Army broke Afghanistan, set up gangsters in the ruins. Then the Taliban and Osama bin Laden came. The fall of the Twin Towers was the result. With the West's abandonment of Chechnya, the tragedy repeats itself."
But we are now doing precisely the opposite of what we did in Afghanistan. Back then, we helped the Muslims against the Soviet Union, and were repaid for our help with 9/11. Now, we are allying ourselves with Russia against the terrorists. That's not the same thing, very obviously.
Sure, there will be more terrorist attacks. But surely it makes more sense to fight them than to help them, now that the USSR has collapsed.

Couldn't have said it better myself. That's basically my sentiment when it comes to all jihadi cowards.

The Chechens are the Palestinians who are al Qaeda...all Islamist cultures who would impose their will and shari'a law on the majority by force if they could. I don't think Putin wants to wipe out every Chechen, far from it. Putin may be more realistic though, than those who see every Islamist as a victim. The Islamists are like the Borg, they will never rest and never stop until we all are assimilated. They have already proven they are willing to kill a theater full of hundreds of Russians, and have no doubt been responsible for at least some of the apartment building bombings that never seem to be big news in the US. If the Chechens were right at our border and we suffered the same attacks, I'll bet we would come down hard on them as well.

The Chechens deserve everything they get from the Russian military. In fact, I believe the Russians need to be even more aggressive in eradicating this vermin. They are a blight on the face of this earth.

Is this Andre Glucksmann the same as the one below?
In "Ouest contre Ouest," by Andre Glucksmann, one of the few leading French intellectuals to challenge the country's position on the Iraq war, France is described as a nation, with others in Europe, that fled the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, on the United States in panic and attempted to set up a sterile biosphere away from the world's realities.
**End excerpt**
Looks like his Humanist tendencies will have him discounted in the US and British Conservative media.
Shouldn't it be argued that China will receive the next terrorist attack by the Chechen al-Qaeda faction?

The Chechen nation counts barely a million individuals, of whom between 100,000 and 200,000 have died at the hand of the Russian army And 500,000 Albanian Muslims got exterminated in Kosovo.

No sympathy from me. A good Islamist is a dead Islamist, as far as I am concerned. May their suffering be unbearable.

"And so they try to justify such a weighty complicity. For months after Sept. 11, it was trumpeted that Osama bin Laden was protected by an iron guard composed of "Pakistanis, Arabs and . . . Chechens." The rumor, started by Moscow, was taken at face value. After the defeat of the Taliban, not one Chechen was discovered in Afghanistan, dead, alive, in the prisons or at Guantanamo."
Pure nonsense. There *were* Chechens fighting alongside Al-Qaeda and the Taliban in Afghanistan. For example, allied forces discovered a journal written by a Chechen which basically contrasted the Russian and American armies. It said that to destroy a Russian army squad's combat effictiveness, you could just kill or wound it's leader. That didn't work with the American unit.

Entire peoples who don't countEntire peoples who by their own actions and barbaric lifestyles don't deserve to count, in this case.
When a thriving human slave market is accepted so widely in a culture, when the biggest financial income is from the kidnapping and videotaping of children being mutilated, and when visiting aid workers are more often than not kidnapped and beheaded, it's time to move on.
Putin is right to try to exterminate these people. They are evil incarnate, with few exceptions.

Don't think this is true. Even it true, basically irrelevant.
Oh, yes, the poor precious little chechen darlings. All those bad Russians fault. Never mind facts like the Chechens restarting the war via terror attacks after the peace agreements of the mid90's.

Neither of the conflicts that has gotten the attention and sympathy of the world -- Iraq or Palestine -- is as cruel as this one. The Chechen nation counts barely a million individuals, of whom between 100,000 and 200,000 have died at the hand of the Russian army, which first invaded in 1994 and left a few years later, humiliated. To celebrate the millennial year 2000, President Vladimir Putin sent the troops back and razed the Chechen's capital Grozny, and transformed their tiny country into permanent hell. The few travelers who risk the ire of the authorities to visit Chechnya (and I was one of them) bear witness to the worst of the worst that dishonors this good year of 2003. This pure crap, first it West favorite Yeltsin who sent troops back in in 1999 after Defense Minister Basayov invade Daghistan and exterminate villages of women and childrens when they say no to new Taliban. This is socialist revisionist from WS Urinal. By way, how can nation invade self? Russia invade Russian territory of 1994? Hmmmm what that say for what US did with Montana Freemen? As for perminent hell, Jihadies already do that. Funny he also not mention that of 800,000 Chechins, 600,000 live in other part Russia.

Russian Journal
MOSCOW - The Russian government has allocated $1bn for paying compensations to refugees who have returned to Chechnya, Russian Minister of Social and Economic Development of Chechnya Stanislav Ilyasov reported at a press conference in Tbilisi (Georgia) today. According to him, after October 10, a group of refugees will arrive in Chechnya who are to make sure that there are all conditions for receiving them in the republic.
Additionally, Stanislav Ilyasov guarantees the security of refugees returning to Chechnya, timely allotment of allowances and pensions, and payment of $12,000 in compensation to every family.
Answering a journalists question, the minister refuted reports that the active return to Chechnya of refugees who lived in the Pankisi gorge (Georgia) was connected with the upcoming Chechen presidential elections. According to him, the process of their returning home has been procrastinated due to the restoration of housing.
It is worth mentioning that on September 29, a plane of the Russian Emergencies Ministry delivered 11 tons of food, including baby food, and 5,000 sets of adult and children clothes and footwear to Tbilisi from Moscow for the refugees who live in the Pankisi gorge.
According to the latest data, there are over 2,000 Chechen refugees residing in Pankisi villages. This June, almost 100 Chechen refugees expressed a wish to come back to Russia. Currently, a temporary point for receiving 1,000 refugees has been organized in the Caucasian republic of Ingushetia that could be used for refugees from Pankisi.

shame on the Wall street juornal for such stupid liberal propaganda! God bless President Bush for having the vision to sse through double-standard which says Russia is wrong to fight terrorism, same terrorism Islamist, Al-Quaida, Wahhabism as struck America on 9-11-01! If the Wall street journals feel sorry for "inocent Chechens" and praise "brave" Chechen rebels they must be very proud for what happened to America on 9-11. Just peace-loving Muslims protestring evil infidel russians and Israelis killing Islamic brothers, with American sympathy, right???
