Because these public officials are in denial.
Of course there's an Islamic fifth column in America.

No, there are many who doubt it.
"this country will become a Muslim country . . . "
The overt, declared goal of Islam is the establishment of a worldwide Islamic theocracy with the Koran as the only constitution and the sharia'h as international law. This is no secret.
"There are none so blind as those who will not see."
That's true. But I think the fact that some of them are being nabbed now may indicate that Bush is doing what he always does: giving his enemies enough rope to hang themselves.
