Three men caught with camera equipment on the grounds surrounding the nuclear power plant were arrested and interrogated by federal and local authorities.

The trio, who police say came to the United States as teenagers from Iran, were spotted at the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station Saturday morning walking along a restricted beach near the plant. They were arrested on trespassing charges. The men told authorities they were hiking.

"Our policy is to arrest," Tarantino said of anyone who strays into the restricted area surrounding the plant.

Shoot first, inspect cameras later.

Fariborz Motamedi, 42, of 23 Panettieri Drive, Lakeville; Amir M. Lashgari, 41, of 2001 Marina Drive, Quincy, and Hamid H. Ahmadi, 49, of 7 Brahman Drive, Norton, were arrested, charged and later released after extensive questioning by authorities.

Catch and release policy. Good for trout fishing, bad for Homeland Security.

They were released and have apparently disappeared... although the Feds may have released them to watch where they go from here.

I suppose we can only trust that the "authorities" got a good feel for these guys and either found them to be doing what they said they were doing or that they have placed them under discreet surveillance to see where they might lead.
A big hope, I know.

So what if there were no photographs of the plant itself. They may have been taking pix of the difficult access for their buddies.

Bingo! You get the prize. Nothing to hold them on, no charges to file. So, dust them off, shake their hand, tell them no harm, no foul and let them go.

But, tag 'em and watch 'em to see where they go, who they call and what they do. Maybe they lead you to someone much more important than they are.

Good point. Surround them with Dobermans and interrogate.

Of course if they were American citizens they would be shipped off to a naval brig without being charged. Why can't we do this with the foreigners? This is just getting more bizarre every day. I just can not stand it.

They mistook it for a Shi'a Holy Shrine.

Must have been a wrong turn in Albuqurque.

they were probably scouts, seeing how far they could go before being spotted and stopped.

A phone number listed to Motamedi in Taunton was disconnected and there was no listing for him in Lakeville. There was no phone listing for Ahmadi in Norton. The number of Lashgari in Quincy was nonpublished.

You would think they would check out their residence and phone contacts before patting them on the head and shuffling 'em out the door.

(I sure hope they put a "BUG" in the camara)

Do we know that they aren't American citizens? It says that they came here as teenagers. They're in their 40's, so they've been here something like 30 years. So they're probably American citizens, and unlikely to be aligned with the Iranian theocracy.

I say release them, but keep them under close observation (at least until the Iranian government falls). Even if they're innocent, they should have known better than to play with video cameras near a nuke plant.
