They should endorse McClintock and ask Arnold to step down and campaign for him. Of course, Arnold's ego would never allow that.

Since Schwarzenegger is walking away with it anyway, I can't see any reason for McClintock to get out. Heck, if he did, that might just prompt a lot of the folks who are voting McClintock to simply stay home, ensuring a Davis victory.

They should consider telling McClintock that if he continues this course of action that he needs to consider his political future carefully..

Cali GOP tells McClintock recheck the spellings of his last name - is he a McClinton like most press/media pronounces in the clips?
Tombots are like suicide bombers, killing themselves in acts that accomplish so little.

Have you seen the internal polls that have Arnold +5 within margin for error? This is not a 'gimmie' by any means!

I dont think the Board can ask McClintock to step down, but a warning to 'think about it' would be welcome

This isn't the Nazi party, not yet anyway.. Besides it is against the law to offer threats or inducements to candidates.

Well with 1 week to go it would be nice for the GOP to have ONE CANDIDATE ONLY in the race.

State GOP considers endorsing Schwarzenegger
By Chuck Carroll
Mercury News
In a development that would signal a huge blow for contender Tom McClintock's quixotic bid to replace the increasingly vulnerable Democratic Gov. Gray Davis as the state's chief executive, the state GOP committee today is considering endorsing fellow Republican actor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Spokesman Mike Wintemute said the committee was meeting today at 1 p.m. in Burbank, and that an announcement would be made at 2 p.m.
McClintock, a rock-ribbed conservative state senator from Thousands Oaks in Ventura County, has quietly resisted mounting pressure on him to step aside to ensure that Republicans have just one major candidate in the race. Some Republicans have said McClintock must bow out by Tuesday to make sure the message gets out there: that there is just one Republican with a realistic chance to beat Democratic Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante, should Davis lose the recall vote on Oct. 7.
Meanwhile, Davis was stung by a new CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll that showed the governor hemorrhaging badly and Schwarzenegger winning the contest to replace him even if McClintock stays in.
As the campaign enters the stretch run, the new poll, taken after Wednesday's closely watched, free-wheeling debate between the replacement candidates, shows Schwarzenegger far outpacing his nearest rivals as the Oct. 7 election approaches, with most voters favoring Davis' removal.
About 63 percent of probable voters said they would vote ``yes'' on the recall question, while 35 percent would vote ``no.''
As a replacement for Davis, Schwarzenegger, at 40 percent, was leaving all other rivals in the dust -- unlike most previous polls, which were much closer and showed Davis with a better chance of remaining in office.
Bustamante was the choice of 25 percent and Tom McClintock was favored by 18 percent -- suggesting Schwarzenegger could become governor even if Republicans split their vote.

We need McClintock in the US Senate, not as the governor of CA. If he can do the things to get Gov. Schwartzenegger's wholehearted support in 2004, we will all be better off for it.
To: rftc
Not a threat, just a warning. You mean a warning like a horse's head in his bed or a chance meeting with Tonya Harding's boyfriend?
I knew our party would be going to hell in a hurry, I just didn't think it would happen so quickly.

You guys are living in fairytale land. If Tom had dropped out a month ago and donated all his money to the they still would not support him for anything. This is the WILSON faction of the California Republican Party. Like the French they have no firends, just INTERESTS. They would never ever support Tom as long as he remained true to his conservative beliefs.
They will only despise him and they will despise the people who signed on with Arnold early as soon as there is an idealogical disagreement. They will set out to destroy anyone who disagrees with them. Watch and learn.

Some California State Senators can't seem to take a hint..at least he could throw his tacit support to Arnold if it was close and if his supporters still wanted to vote McClintock--they could do so!
