TOM MCCLINTOCK DAILY EDITION - 9/29/03 (CA GOVERNOR'S RACE)

Posted on 09/29/2003 7:14:39 AM PDT by Rabid Dog

Please post local, regional, national news and views on Tom McClintock. This is a news and info thread. The following guidelines for posting are per DoughtyOne's most excellent suggestion.

McClintock Camp - Supporters or Defenders

Please post positive articles about Tom's policies and leave the Schwarzenegger bashing to the Democrats.

Schwarzenegger Camp - Supporters or Defenders

The call for McClintock to withdraw right now, or the tactic of calling him and his followers names for not doing so, is not productive and isn't good for the party.

Please save the Rino Arnold/Unelectable Tom rants for other threads.

"Dear Mr. Reagan, it should be obvious to you now that you can never be elected governor. Please put aside your ego, for the good of our party, and get behind the one man who is moderate enough to appeal to California voters - - San Francisco Mayor George Christopher."

Good morning everyone. New poll yesterday from CNN/GALLOP.

Arnold down (42 to 40)
Bustamante up (22 to 25)
Tom up (13 to 18)
Margin of error: plus/minus 4 points

Tom and Bustamante are in a statistical dead heat. Consider what would happen if all the people that wanted to vote for Tom but were supporting Arnold because "Tom was unelectable" switched over. The RNC is well aware of this scenario and are in a quandry. If they push Arnold left, he will erode into Cruz's base but may lose his conversative votes and Tom could win. If he pushes right, he loses the Cruz vote and Cruz could win.

The DNC is looking at it and is realizing the spectre of two Republicans in the lead. Right now votes for Cruz will be wasted and means the risk of Tom pulling into first. So a Vote for Cruz is a Vote for Tom. Their people will have to vote for Arnold to reduce the damage.

Sound vaguely familiar?

This Tom's best chance to set himself up to run against boxershorts. Now he can only hurt himself. He can't even hurt Arnold. Tom take your reputation and run, while you still can. Don't make a fool of yourself or; we lose a fine candidate in the future.

Different candidates, different styles: McClintock

http://www.sacbee.com/content/politics/recall/story/7505266p-8447322c.html

State Sen. Tom McClintock has made a string of pledges he plans to fulfill immediately if elected governor in the approaching recall -- even promising to carry out some tasks "before lunch" on his first day in office.
Coupling executive powers with his obvious knowledge of the nooks and crannies of California government, McClintock says he would wipe out the recent vehicle license fee increase, abolish a host of state agencies and cancel state energy contracts signed at a time when prices were at their peak.

But legislative and government experts say many of his pledges can't be executed as easily or quickly as he claims on the campaign trail.

Good God. Someday, Conservatives will awaken to the key to the success of political power in America.

What is the key?

Read on to find out, if you dare.

Schwarzenegger's got it. Reagan had it. Dad Bush did not and lost. McNader doesn't have a chance. Senate leader Lott and now Frist were AWOL on this quality, and it has seriously undermined the Bush administration because of their lack of it. Buckley, in spite of his intellect, never had it. Neither does Will. But Rush - the man practically invented it and sweats it from every pore. Miller's got it. Coulter? Oh yeah, she carries the torch proudly. It saved the 2000 election, and is the only thing that will save America.

Does W. Bush have it? Yes, but he's reluctant to use it unless he feels he must, when it is sometimes too late. He needs to get it front and center, flat out, no holds barred. He is isolated by advisors who do not have this quality, nor understand how important it is.

What is it?

No, it's not the Segway.

It is the Power of the Warrior Crusader, the fierce and menacing street-wise take no enemies Freeper Conservatives.

Freepers are largely responsible for taking back the election in 2000 with grassroots robust protests and effective dissemination of the truth at a time when our entire lives and futures could have turned on a more passive approach.

Like our forefathers who created this great nation, Warrior Freepers share a burning desire to protect and advance freedom and liberty in the world, and to expose and destroy the Evil of creeping Socialism. We have a deep, immovable passion for America, and we are Good.

It is my opinion that the foremost quality for nominating a candidate for future political office in the new millennium is simply this (to paraphrase Elaine on Seinfeld:) IS THAT CANDIDATE WARRIOR FREEPER WORTHY?

If not, no amount of intelligence, qualification, or experience can make up a lack of this quality.

Almost nothing else matters. To be a Trent Lott sitting-duck, or a Bill Frist debating with the demagogues Schumer and Rangel, you need to be a courageous fighter first and foremost to penetrate the left-wing media conspiracy, withstand and anticipate the lies and deception of the Socialists, and get in the faces of the voters.

The Liberal Liars rely on the good-natured and pious polite intelligent conservatives of years past when they spread their deception and shamelessness across the air waves directly to the voters.

But now, Warrior Freepers are holding these weasels accountable, by their throats.

You are either WARRIOR FREEPER WORTHY, or you are not a qualified Conservative candidate.

WARRIOR FREEPERS RULE THE EARTH.

Expect to see a lot of slop being thrown for the next week - on this thread and on others. Please refrain from responding. The Arnold Bucket Brigade is desperate - and by now all of you know who these posters are.

I'd like to see your thoughts on this article Rabid Republican posted:

http://www.sacbee.com/content/politics/recall/story/7505266p-8447322c.html

In particular, note that it mentions legislative approval may be needed to exercise the line item veto in some cases.

I remember you were saying Tom would be able to legislate effectively through vetoes only, and therefore bypass the legislature. My position is that this would be improbable.

Thoughts?

Great Article!

Ventura Star
McClintock positive staying in right thing
Republican not bowing to party pressure
http://www.insidevc.com/vcs/state/article/0,1375,VCS_122_2306461,00.html

"I have never been popular in the country club wing of the Republican Party," McClintock said in interview Sunday before another full day of campaigning. "I've always drawn my strength from grass-roots voters, and I'm quite content with that."

McClintock has benefited from his growing status as a national conservative icon. On Saturday, he was a headliner at a meeting of the Council for National Policy, a national conservative activist organization. The event, held in Colorado Springs, Colo., drew conservative heavyweights including James Dobson of Focus on the Family, former Reagan Energy Secretary Donald Hodel, and Richard Viguerie, founder of the Moral Majority. A fund-raising reception at the meeting netted over $100,000 for his campaign, McClintock said.

It is very possible according to sabertooth that something very damning will come out about Arnold this week. If so, we will be very glad to have stuck with McClintock and that he stayed in. Why don't we all wait and see.

I know your question was directed to Ambrose but here is a link to Tom's senate website on these various issues:

He seems to have addressed many of the issues and potential obstacles in his columns and speeches.

I see that your post advocates candidates dropping out for the good of the party. Political parties love that kind of either-or thinking!

If the plurality victor election law was revoked before the next election in three years, the political parties would have to compete with actual ideas, rather than the current either-or, take-it-or-leave-it mentality of this election. It is small wonder that so few voters bother to vote!

The Socialist Republic of California will continue to elect flawed politicians as long as they allow the election laws to remain as they are. I refer to the election law that allows the victor to win by a plurality rather than by a majority.

It is curious that it will take a majority ( 50 percent of those voting plus one vote ) to recall CEO Gray-Davis, but only a plurality to replace him. That method insures that the majority will have their choice voided by the minority.

This should be the last election where the plurality determines the victor, if California is to begin its return to Democracy.

However, if the voters choose not to change the election law in the next three years, then they should be content with allowing the minority to choose who governs the majority.
