LOS ANGELES - Arnold Schwarzenegger has muscled his way to a commanding lead in California's recall campaign, according to the results of a stunning poll released yesterday. A Gallup survey commission by CNN and USA Today showed Golden State voters poised to pink-slip Gov. Gray Davis and install political newcomer Schwarzenegger as their leader.

Good! Looks like the Governator may have it in the bag. There is still time for all of the Republicans to line up behind Arnold and make it an overwhelming victory.

Some say that Arnold is not a true Republican. So what!! What is more important here is that he's not Davis or Bustamante.

Let it be said that the charge against McC that he threatened Arnie's rightful ascension to governor is now moot.

While it appeared to be a close run thing even a few days ago, it is now clear that Arnie is gonna take this race right up the middle and out of Dem hides

Hopefully the level of discourse can now focus on meaningful discussion about getting Calif back on track.

It can also be said that McClintock had a chance to enhance his standing in the party, and thereby further the advancement the conservative agenda, by being a team player. He would have made a great candidate against Boxer, with Bush, Guiliani, Cheney, Arnold etc. campaigning with him and raising funds. But he didn't want to play that game.

You realize that if these poll numbers bear out (and I think they will), this portends really badly for the McClintock wing of the party - because it represents all those previously uncommitteds coming home to roost in the moderate wing of the GOP.

At this point, the GOP now is coming to realize that it can win without the hystericals, and you're going to find yourselves completely marginalized when the whole exercise was unnecessary.

You know, that is getting tiresome:

The Republican party is largely, but not totally, composed of three overlapping but distinct groups of conservatives:

Jeffersonian Conservatives - those who follow Jefferson's dictum that "that government is best which governs least"

Economic Conservatives - those who believe in fiscal accountability, free-market type economics, etc.

Moral/Social Conservatives - those who believe that morals are important to have a stable society: family is important, no homosexual marriage, etc. etc.

Obviously, these overlap, but it is clear that a person can emphasize one or two, and even largely disagree with one while strenuously supporting one or two.

That is why, for instance, there is such an argument over Arnold--he is an economic conservative, but not much of a moral/social conservative. He, is, however, within the Republican party because of that economic conservative stance.

I've always figured the McClintock candidacy would be irrelevant to the outcome, glad to see the polls coming around. His name recognition alone will give Arnold several more percentage points in the final results than the other major polls are showing.

The ongoing FReeper Poll continues to show Arnold pulling away.

Still With Arnold + Changed to Arnold = 51.44%
Still With Tom + Changed to Tom = 44.20%

If Tom can't win among this constituency, where can he win? His continued presence in the race serves only to keep Bustamante's fading hopes alive. It becomes more apparent by the day which candidate most appeals to the conservative base.

Don't overestimate the power of the Democrat vote fraud machine. When Zogby starts to poll this election, pay attention. In 2000 everyone said Zogby was crazy predicting a close election but he was right on. How was he? Because he understood the Democrats vote fraud machine (Zogby's brother works for the DNC). It will be the same this election. If you think this is a conspiracy, think again. Remember the Democrats will do anything to win an election. When the Clinton's have a stake in this watch out.

I hope you're right in some ways, and FEAR you're right in ways I don't like in the least.

Ideologically, I AM in "the McClintock wing of the party." Without hint of apology.

And I think (1) he's been the worst thing to happen to us in years, and (2) his scorched earth enablers are shooting themselves and their whole purported cause in the foot, or somewhat higher.

They are saying, without words, "We can't work with anybody, we can't work as a team, if we can't have ONE HUNDRED PER CENT of our way, we'll burn the house down!"

That isn't how anything gets DONE. And isn't that our aim? To get something DONE?
