Governor (Davis) speeds up open-space land deals
CRA ^ | Sept. 26, 2003 | CRA

Davis is a bonafide crook. Don't read this if you have high blood pressure.

Excerpt: "Less than two weeks before the election that could end his political career, Gov. Gray Davis is rushing to approve nearly $300 million in deals for the state to buy land from developers who have given him more than $160,000 in political contributions."

"Yet critics question whether the price for taxpayers is too high -- Davis refuses to make appraisals of the properties public -- and what role politics and campaign money are playing."

"The governor's administration has called a special meeting Tuesday of the state's Wildlife Conservation Board, a little-known Sacramento agency that buys parkland."

"Originally, the board was not set to meet until Nov. 18. But in recent days, the administration added the special meeting to fast-track three major deals whose owners have given Davis $163,100 in the past three years, including $30,000 in the past month to Davis' ``No on the Recall'' committee."

"``Politically, Davis needs this to look good to get votes against the recall,'' Francis said. ``The developers know this. The timing is incredible for them. If we were to wait until after the recall, the price would come down.''"

"Taxpayer advocate Coupal called on Davis to release the appraisals so the public can see how the prices were computed. But Nichols said they would not be released until after escrow closes later this year."

"Last month, Davis vetoed a bill by Sen. Byron Sher, D-San Jose, that would have required the state to make more documents public in land deals over $25 million, including purchase contracts, toxic studies and appraisals. Sher introduced it after Mercury News reports showed the state may have overpaid by as much as $50 million in March when it bought 16,500 acres of San Francisco Bay salt ponds from Cargill Salt because it used outdated appraisals."

Davis is definitely a corrupt politician

Sorry, this was posted yesterday. Just found it.

For those who haven't seen it, this is how jackass looking Davis the crook is flipping off the people of California and stil spending our tax money like it's going out of style.

It just goes to show that he just doesn't get it - he's pathologically incapable of getting it. Reminds me of Torricelli in NJ after being shown the door by the machine and being asked by a reporter about the illegality of transferring his war chest, the paper quoted him something like: "We'll find a way"

Nice find, ENOUGH.

Cheneychick, were you complaining about Arnold's proposal to sell surplus land in order to get out of the fix we're in?

I wanted to comment on that earlier, but didn't get around to it. I like that proposal because I think our government owns way too much of California and should sell it off.

In an area where we have an outrageous housing shortage, the State Parks people bought one of the few major tracts of affordable rental housing in Topanga, condemned the houses and is turning it into a State Park that will get about three visits a day.

The tenants living in the houses got settlements up to $80,000. That sounds outrageous, but wait: That isn't even enough for a decent downpayment on equivalent housing. The cheapest house in Topanga is $450k, and it's pretty bad.

This kind of government land grab really disgusts me :-(.

The linked article is on cagop.org, the page of the CA Republican Party, not the CA Republican Assembly.

The source and author should both be CRP, not CRA.

Yeah, I know. I was so damn mad when I read it. I provided two links to it to make up for it. I see it really pissed you off, too.
