In the insurance commissioner's race, Republican Dan Kyle is actually better known than the incumbent Democrat Robert Wooley, who assumed the position after his precedessor, Democrat Jim Brown, went to prison. Kyle was an early candidate for governor but dropped out to challenge Wooley.
