Denise Rose has a master's degree in counseling. Her most recent ex-husband has a high school diploma."I'm the only one I know who married beneath me," sighs the twice-divorced Knoxville, Tenn., resident.

But then, as she starts naming her friends and family, Mrs. Rose realizes she is far from alone. Several women she knows have higher levels of education than their husbands. Their marriages just didn't end quite so badly.

I think rich women are less likely to be hesitant about getting a divorce since they may not be as financially effected if they were less well off and perhaps more dependent on their spouse for their lot in life.

With a cruddy attitude like that it's surprising that she was ever married at all. It is no surprise that she's been dumped twice.

I suppose Mr. Hacker is correct. I don't know any lawyers, male OR female, with the mental acuity to keep up a conversation with an electrician.

These women are complete whiners. My mom has more formal education than my dad, and they've been married for more than 25 years.

I definately don't act like that when it comes to dating, and neither will any other conservative chick here. Freeper women are smarter than that.

The larger question is "Why are there mo good women left?"

A college education may be just wonderful for a woman to learn independence and self-sufficiency, but it definitely has detracted from the qualities that make her good wife material.

There are certain marital roles that can never be changed by the wishful thinking of "liberation." Men are wise to leave those women imbued with the feminist philosophy alone.

Sure the woman might have a Masters degree, but probably in some soft field with laughable standards that doesn't pay very well. The electrician supposedly "beneath" her is in a more exacting field that probably pays better.

Sorry, Freeper Ladies, but quite frankly, I've begun to look at American women like I would a second job: more work on top of my work load, poor payback, lots of hassles, and just another source of stress. Bad investment of time and effort. It's not like things get better with money: more demanding, less responsiveness, more of an overall pain in the a$$.

What stands out the most in this post is the connection between the level of education of men and women and the effect it has on marriage. The fact that women are "marrying beneath themselves" suggests that educated women don't necessarily make good wives. If a woman holds the view that the man she married was "beneath her" then the marriage is in trouble from the start.


There's an old adage that says: "Women marry for security, men marry for sex." While women may find their security in an education and a career what they bring to a marriage is an attitude of independence that turns many men off. Women view their marriage as a "partnership" - men don't. If men wanted a "partner" they'd go into business, not get married.


This post suggests that higher education is actually an impediment to a successful marriage, at least on the part of women. So, a successful marriage would mean finding a man with the same educational level, or forgo higher education and marry a "working stiff". Not getting married at all.is always an option.


One thing is for sure: men will always find wives to make them happy - educated or not. The pool of under-educated women to draw from is vast and wide. But as women elevate themselves in the educated world the pool of men to draw from is small and shrinking.

hated the work once she got into it. She quit it cold,
took her savings, moved to the mountains, got a little
apartment in walking distance of the gift shop where she
found a job, sold her car and hikes everywhere she goes
and does the things she enjoys in her spare time. Prestige
and money are pretty shallow when you hate what you do for
a living.

What have you done to remedy your problem? How are going to get married? Be careful with mail order bride/dating services. They're mostly scams. I agree, the way women whine is nauseating though.
