The Port Authority of Allegheny County hopes to begin construction as early as next fall on subway links to the North Shore and the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.

The so-called North Shore Connector would route light-rail tracks beneath the Allegheny River to link Downtown with the North Side. The extension to the Downtown convention center would run from the US Steel Tower.

TG! It's a pain in the butt to get to the North Side eg: "we're under construction for the duration."

Sure - what we have now is heavily used for as small as it is. It is a hell of a lot nicer taking the T into work than riding a bus. The only bad part is a few areas in the South Hills where they used the old trolley lines and you have to compete with traffic. The Overbrook extension will be done soon (meaning I can take it instead of the PAT buses which seem to break down every summer).

A step in the right direction. If they want tourists on the North Shore, they better make it easier for them to get there.

Wasn't there some problem with the "4th river", an underground one?

"Obviously, I think it will be a good thing for the team, Steelers' fans and Pitt fans," said Steelers President Art Rooney II. "Something like this will help the North Shore, and ultimately, I think the (Carnegie) Science Center, Community College (of Allegheny County) and the neighborhood."

Just like the 2 new stadiums did ! Yeah, right !
