Gujarat: Killer leopard shot dead by foresters

Vadodara, Sept. 23. (UNI): A full-grown leopard, which had created terror in the Baria forest division in Gujarat's Dahod district killing 11 people during the last one month, was finally shot dead by the sharp-shooters in Shanjoi village.

The man-eater was sprayed with bullets after a six-hour search operation by the forest officials in a maize field where it had fled escaped after inflicting severe injuries to a 40 year-old woman working in a field, official sources said yesterday.

With the increase in the leopard's attack on the villagers living in the Dhanpur and Mainpur forest ranges of the Baria division, the authorities had recently requisitioned three sharp-shooters from the Gir forests, and put up bait cages at about a dozen places to trap the man-eater.

That is truly impressive ! I know alot of guys who spend days on end in a lightly wooded forest trying to shoot a deer, and come home with just a story!!!!!! These guys bagged a leopard in six hours !! I bet those forest officials never go hungry.

I believe that they are the same beasts (like a mountain lion and cougar). Black leopards aren't terribly common.

And as a free bonus - Col. Patterson's "Man-Eaters of Tsavo," who terrorized the Uganda Railway in the early years of the last century. They killed something like 100 railway workers and things pretty much ground to a halt until Col. Patterson managed to bag them both.

And yeah, they're pretty mangy. That's probably why they took to the Uganda Free Lunch Counter.
