When Bret Schundler took the nomination in New Jersey, the moderates actively sabotaged his campaign.

That's the main reason why I am personally so interested in this race.

Where in my post do I reference her running for Congress? That has nothing to do with what I wrote.

considering this:

The USA Today-Gallup poll shows the Republican candidate far ahead of his nearest rivals as the Oct. 7 election approaches, with most voters choosing Davis' removal.
The poll was released Sunday amid a flurry of weekend activity that signaled the race for the California governor's office has entered its stretch run: Davis unveiled a new attack ad, Schwarzenegger made multiple campaign stops, other candidates attended a forum in Sacramento and newspapers published a spate of largely anti-recall editorials. The new survey, taken after a debate last week that drew large television audiences, showed 63 percent of probable voters saying they would vote "yes" on the recall question, and 35 percent voting "no." As a potential replacement for Davis, Schwarzenegger was the choice of 40 percent, Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante (search) 25 percent and Republican state Sen. Tom McClintock 18 percent -- suggesting Schwarzenegger could become governor even if Republicans split their vote.

The "SAFE" thing for Tom would be to wait until Friday and then say he stayed to the end (I think all would accept that as true) then spend the ad money he has suddenly held back to do adds of dropping out and supporting Arnold..However the absolute best scenario (assuming the poll numbers above are correct) would be for Tom to go all the way, and have arnold win. Then aronold and Tom could keep each other honest. By each reaching across the Aisle they could unite the republicans like never before. Arnold could push through moderate to conservative soccial issues. Tom could be the legeslative bully pulpit and Arnold the Executive bully pulpit to reinstate fiscal soundness for the state. Tom could advise Arnold when and where to use the line item veto and in exchange tom could support Arnolds focused spending for constructive social items. A combined success could spell a reinvigorated party with a fresh face. Both would be able to pursue continued politcal careers or use this as a spring board to bigger and better things leaving behing a legacy, handing the reins to up and comers and start having a national influence. In any case it is Tom's decision!

First of all DoughtyOne - if I haven't missed the mark you write like Roger Hedgecock speaks (Honestly I respect the man) but, to both of you the thing about the indian tribes support of Tom McClintock appears to be unsolicited. For this issue we need to look at the fact that they (indian bands) are going to support any one that they feel supports them whether it is overt, present, solicited, with an evil purpose in mind like bustamecha, or unsolicted support via PAC's for past understanding of dignity (though never above United States sovereignty). The indians aren't stupid (they are raking in billions per year without paying their fair share of taxes(as Arnold put it) they are hedging against a political demographic and power shift to the right. They are reminding Tom of past liason in case he remains a state assemblyman with a RINO governor that could really lay down the heat. Our in ability to easliy step into anothers shoes is indicative of over focus!!!
