OAKLEY, Calif. - Freedom High School officials say they will not make any decision on a proposed Caucasian Club until freshman Lisa McClelland meets necessary application requirements, including finding an adviser and drawing up a club constitution.
The 15-year-old met with Principal Eric Volta briefly Thursday morning for an informal discussion about the club and her well-being, Volta said.
``I talked to her about the process and made sure she was OK emotionally,'' Volta said. ``We talked about the purpose of the club. The school's not opposed to cultural clubs and hasn't been, obviously. We'll see where she takes it from here.''
Lisa is pushing for a Caucasian Club in an effort, she says, to break down racial barriers while embracing European American heritage. Lisa said she hopes her club, like the Black Student Union and Latinos Unidos on campus, is seen as a haven for those who don't fit into such categories even though all clubs at Freedom are open to everyone.
``I think we're doing something good that needed to be done a long time ago,'' Lisa said. ``With everything going on now, I'm just 100 percent more motivated to keep it going.''

The principal wanted to meet with her to see if she was "OK emotionally"? I wonder if the Blacks and Latinos had the same meeting? I also want to know how "inclusive" the Black Student Union or Latinos Unidos clubs are at school.

Nope, it's the same topic in the same place...Oakley, California. Unbelievable to me. I grew up in Brentwood just a few miles from Oakley...Oakley was just a few hundred people them. Does anyone else find it absolutely amazing that it is such major news when Caucasians want to freely associate with one another? I find it absolutely, totally mind boggling.

When I attended a California university there was a club called "Ori-Oxi" and it was composed of Orientals & caucasians. I went to a couple of meetings with a Japanese friend...it was about 90% "Ori"! But ethnic clubs have been around for a long time now, what's the problem with one just for caucasians.

It's news because this is whites looking for equal rights in a way and for many minority minded, white always = kkk which would be their own prejudice and not the truth.
It's a good thing.

Is it any different than 100 Blacks in Law Enforcement, the group of NYC policemen? Oh, wait......things of this nature only go ONE WAY!

My thoughts, too. Why did her emotional state become an issue? Because she's proud she's white?

Do it.
Just have a more generous membership requirement, such as anyone with a brain. ;)
I remember a college friend of mine suggest that we start a 'white' engineering club at our school. There was Society of Women Engineers, National Society of Black Engineers, and other engineering groups. All of us said yes. There was 2 whites, 3 chinese, 2 filipinos, 1 iranian, and one hispanic, and all of us said it was a good idea.

This doesn't fit the liberal agenda of guilt and self-loathing at all. Maybe Feinstein or Pelosi can drop by with some pointers.

Girl Wants To Start Caucasian Club At High School
POSTED: 8:41 a.m. EDT September 18, 2003
OAKLEY, Calif. -- Lisa McClelland says she isn't a racist. She says her campaign for a Caucasian Club at her California high school is a move toward diversity, not bigotry.
SURVEY |
Should a California high school student be allowed to start a Caucasian Club? |
Yes, if there are other clubs like the Black Student Union and Asian Club she should be allowed to.
No. There should be no clubs targeting any ethnic group.
No. Only minorities should be able to have clubs targeting an ethnic group.

She says everyone is invited -- and nobody will be excluded.
McClelland's ethnic background includes American Indian, Hispanic, Dutch, German, Italian and Irish. She says she and her friends feel slighted by other clubs at Freedom High School in Oakley, such as the Black Student Union and the Asian Club.
McClelland says she's collected 245 signatures of support from students, adults and others since announcing her plans three weeks ago.
One person who won't be signing up is Darnell Turner, first vice president of the local chapter of the NAACP. Turner says he thinks the club will create racial tension.

Isn't it interesting that in some parts of the country (therefore some public schools) caucasians are numerically in the minority. So when does it flip around so as the majority then should be entitled with minority priveleges?
To: PennsylvaniaMom
Caucasians are
already the minority in California.
And in large parts of Florida, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona.
The rest of the nation will catch up in approximately twenty years.
PS: The fastest growing religion in the United States is Islam.

Good question...could be a subtle implication that someone who starts up a club for Caucasians (as opposed to one for Blacks or Latinos) might be a little "off the rails" and a candidate for intervention or sensitivity training/sarcasm off
