Arrest Made In Kobe Bryant Case (KFI Exclusive Report)
KFI 640, Los Angeles/Eric Leonard Exclusive Report | truthkeeper

Posted on 09/18/2003 5:15:31 PM PDT by truthkeeper

KFI reporter Eric Leonard just broke the following exclusive story.

A man was arrested today after he approached Kobe Bryant's defense team with an offer to murder the female accuser in his sexual assault case. Patrick Grobber of El Segundo, 31, asked for $3 million to either murder the woman or "talk her out of testifying." He is being charged with one count of solicitation to commit murder and is being held on $1 million bail.

Grobber, a German national, had given the name "Uri Andropov" to the defense team and identified himself as a Russian mobster. "Uri Andropov" was the name of the one-time head of the KGB.

After being contacted by the defense team, arrangements were made to meet the man at a local coffee shop, where a bag of phony money was presented. When he accepted it, he was arrested.

(NOTE: I'm not sure if the last name of the man is spelled correctly, but this is my best shot at it.)

Well I'm glad they played along and the guy is in custody, but the way our courts work he'll only get six weeks of house arrest.

You can't get but so smart, but stupidity knows no bounds.
I suppose the defense team was supposed to say:
"Yo, blood, off the b***h and we're down!"

For the record, it's Yuri, not Uri. And second, are the people at KFI so stupid that they don't realize the guy also USED TO BE HEAD OF THE SOVIET UNION?!?! Calling him "the one-time head of the KGB" is like referring to Ronald Reagan as "the one-time governor of California."

Smogger was the guy on here who started a gazillion threads telling what he'd like to do to Kobe's accuser.

Smogger--Grobber??? Same guy?

*shaking head* I believe you. What I can't believe is how stupid KFI's so-called "journalists" are.

They just repeated the blurb and it sounded like the newsgal said, "Grayber." I'm close, I guess.

KFI said the guy is German, had a Swedish passport and was using the name of the former head of the KGB! Hope that clears things up.

Relax in jail Yuri. She'll probably off herself when the pressure grows. Suicide is her coping instrument. She couldn't handle the pressures of life after high school in a sleepy Colorado town. Wait till Geraldo knocks on the old front door. Pity the thing, pretty girl with her whole life ahead of her. Then she invites a sexual assault by going into a man's hotel roonm alone. Horrible parenting not to teach your children how to stay out of such obvious danger. Unless of course she wanted to have sex with Kobe Bryant and then later regretted it. Poor confused little kitten.

California Man Held in Alleged Threat Against Kobe Bryant Accuser

Published: Sep 18, 2003

MONTEREY PARK, Calif. (AP) - A man was arrested Thursday for investigation of soliciting the murder of the woman who has accused Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant of sexual assault, authorities said.

Patrick Graber, of El Segundo, Calif., was taken into custody by Los Angeles County sheriff's investigators and FBI agents, the Sheriff's Department said in a press release.

Graber, 31, was booked and held on $1 million bail.

The investigation began Sept. 8 after security personnel employed by Bryant said they had received a letter from Graber saying he could solve Bryant's problems, the Sheriff's Department said.

A security official met with Graber and then contacted sheriff's investigators. A meeting was arranged with Graber and undercover sheriff's detectives.

The detectives concluded that Graber was offering to commit murder and they contacted the accuser's family in her home state of Colorado and authorities there to advise them of the alleged threat.

The Sheriff's Department said there were several more meetings with Graber in which payment for the murder was arranged. It was not clear whether any money changed hands.

Bryant, 25, is charged with raping a 19-year-old employee of a mountain resort in Eagle County, Colo., on June 30. He has said the two had consensual sex.

Also Thursday, authorities said an investigation requested by Bryant's defense team has cleared the Eagle County sheriff and district attorney of leaking details about the case to the media.

Sheriff Joe Hoy said he had no doubt his office would be cleared.

"We just do not spread leaks or allow leaks to happen," he said.

District Attorney Mark Hurlbert did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Defense attorney Pamela Mackey did not return a call.

A number of print and broadcast media stories have detailed the investigation and quoted anonymous sources. County Court Judge Frederick Gannett, who had already issued a gag order in the case, ordered the investigation after Bryant's defense complained.

Pitkin County investigators cleared authorities in Eagle County, but it remained unclear who is leaking details to the media.

Free on $250,000 bond, Bryant faces an Oct. 9 preliminary hearing to determine whether he will stand trial. He faces up to four years to life in prison if convicted.

Cruel and unusual punishment. He'll probably get a suspended sentence or time served.

Yeah, my mistake. What was I thinking? As long as we allow him to travel 500 miles from his home, we MIGHT have a chance.
