BTW, speaking of defused: guess what I learned today? MECHA is the Spanish word for fuse, as in the Eagle-with-lit-dynamite symbol of MEChA.

Cops around here tend to shoot when given the chance. Talk can come later over yer dead body.

They seem to have a history too about a peculiar vitriol for family dogs.

But, in their defense..they have lost a number this year of their own. I drive by two crosses daily on I-40 east of town where those two crazyass girls ran over two cops trying to go around the road spikes after a long chase. There was even a shootout not far from my home in Green Hills two weekends ago when a wannabee had led them on a chase after slashing his paramour and then the genius decided to back into one of the cops after he feigned stopping. That local Barney unloaded his .40 in the guys Altima's drivers door and the guy lucked out with only a pissant leg wound.

I imagine in Memphis, the cops get plenty of action.

At least the hostages were only wounded and not serious I hear.

Tennessee is sort of like Texas....don't play hardball with John Law unless you have a very fast car, lots of ammo and most likely a suicide by cop wish.

I can't think of many jurisdictions left where you can play with guns around cops and hostages, and not expect a sudden end.

Another thread includes the data that the original report of "sucide" was false. He was shot by the SWAT team.

With a probably false Al-Qaeda claim, his death could be called "suicide by cop" (a suicide where the person wants to die at the hands of a police officer).
