Thank God! Now, if they could do this every day, America would be a far better place...

Well, when they tell all "non-essential personnel" to stay home, I have to wonder, why are they "essential" at any time ;-)

The federal government up in DC is going to be closed down, but I still don't get the day off tomorrow? There is no justice in the world =(.

Hurry! Somebody call Sheila Jackson Lee. Sure, they are shutting the government down for Hurricane Isabel but would they do that if it was Hurricane Shaniequa? Heck no because of racism engrained in the system!

I just come back from visiting D.C.

I keep saying to my son almost the entire day.

"That building would make an excellent hotel"

But Dad, "that's the Dept of Education, Dept of Commerce, Dept of Labor..."

My reply.................and your point is.................

LOL...the bureaucrats never miss a beat when it comes to taking time off and figuring out how not to get their job done.

Any chance of Isabel moving to, say, Sacramento? I'd like to see those dinks take a few weeks off.....

"U.S. government closing its offices Thursday in entire Washington metropolitan area due to Hurricane Isabel (Reuters)"

If they did this annually we could declare September 18th a holiday as "The Most Productive Day of Every Year".

On a serious note, I hear from friends online in that area that they're quite concerned.

Having been through 2 hurricanes and 2 tropical storms, I'd be more concerned when the government works. However for those folks on the coastline (like me) it's no fun and quite loud.

That was my first thought too! Any day Fedgov shuts down is a good day in my book.

We can always hope that Isabel levels those structures.

Oh come on. I'm employed by North Carolina (the state getting creamed first), and if I want tomorrow off, I have to use a vacation day. (if anyone has heard differently please let me know)

Obviously, the standard of 'close enough for government work' is somewhat flexible.
