Washington -- Democrats, underscoring the national stakes in California's recall election, are sending their most popular figures to the state in an effort to rally the party's base behind Gov. Gray Davis.

Former President Bill Clinton is scheduled to campaign this weekend with Davis, followed next week by the Rev. Jesse Jackson and Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts, one of the party's candidates for president. Discussions are under way with a long lineup of Democratic luminaries including former New York Gov. Mario Cuomo, several current governors including Washington's Gary Locke, Democratic consultants James Carville and Donna Brazile, and the rest of the Democratic presidential field.

But, I thought WJC was going to return to Palestine and settle the little break down in the Oslo accords once and for all...

"No ifs, ands, or buts, we are out to protect our incumbent," said Democratic National Party Chairman Terry McAuliffe, who heads to California this weekend.

Does this not suggest theat the DNC is conceding that Bustamante is Schwarzeneggerian roadkill?

Instead, the party is now going to return to its focus on "Saving Gray Davis".

Which one's the possum? Which one's the armadillo?

In the midst of this are the 'little people' who just want their state back.

Oh well. I guess we don't count. California is now just the national pawn for electoral votes.

My favorite line.... it would look lovely embroidered on a pillow :-)

"Bill Clinton is essentially the lipstick on the pig, but voters still see a pig," Stutzman said. "Even Democratic voters still see a pig."
