I know one of these people; she works at the quality control lab in Miami, and has had the foresight to already begin looking for another job.
As a sideline, Sears is moving their entire quality control department to China.
Thank you W.

Thank you W.

He'll be paying. Unless there is a JOBS RECOVERY, his job will be outsourced to a Democrat soon.

The jeans maker has been struggling to reverse a six-year slide in its sales as consumers began buying more trendy or less expensive clothes.

No no no, if memory serves, your sales went into a six year slide the day you came out endorisng Gay Scout Leaders. (Anyone, correct me if I'm wrong, I may be having a Senior moment!). Consumers have always looked for cheaper clothes, your sales never suffered! Try reversing that stance, you will see your Sales start to climb. Blackbird.

meanwhile the cuts made in the US are replaced by workers in India or China (IT, Accounting etc). The continued exporting of American jobs troubles me. I am not a proponent of tarrifs etc, but the playing field is clearly not level. I am open to any suggestions that keeps Americans both blue and white collar working.

In an effort to bounce back, Levi's has designed more clothes to appeal to teenagers and young adults, and cut costs to lower prices.

They are lowering prices to make room for more $60 jeans from competitors?

I agree. I think the day Levi started bashing the Boy Scouts is when their sales started a downward spiral. Sorry for the people losing their jobs, but Levi....

Sears is moving their entire quality control department to China.

For Real? QC going overseas for all their products?

And I suppose President Dean will sign legislation prohibiting layoffs for struggling companies. Maybe if Levis didn't cost 40 dollars a pair people would buy more. President Bush's tax cut gave me an additional $800 to spend on whatever I want. Its up to the companies to entice me to spend it on their products.

No, sir, the System has already chosen him to win again. Besides, the only difference between him and a Democrat is an association with demons and pervs (Clintons and Frank).

Actually, I think if they started making their jeans like they used to and not in this new way where they fall apart after 6 months to a year--I think that would go a long way. A pair of Levi's used to last forever. I buy them for my husband and am lucky to get a year, maybe 2, out of them.

And I live in Phoenix. We don't wear jeans all too often.

Seems to me you have it 180 degrees backward. The problem is that Levis cannot easily eliminate 300 jobs in Europe---which may mean that Levis may eliminate more U.S. jobs. Eventually, then, Levis may just shut down if it is unable to make a profit. Now, as I see it, that's the fault of REGULATION that makes it impossible to fire someone (in this case, European regulation). In other words, the problem is not enough free trade, not too much. But if people in this country have their way, we soon will be as overregulated as Europe, and rather than cutting some jobs to remain profitable, companies will just close, laying off 100% of their work force.

A few months back, I would have disagreed. I see now that the iraqis rate ANOTHER 90 billion of our money, but American jobs are not even on the radar (cept for references in speechs).

Occasionally, a Democrat can upset the system (JFK v. Nixon; Clinton v. Bush Sr.)

I suggest that unless Bush gets America back on the clock, he will be upset by Hillary(!).

Mr. Mole, the answer is an old-fashioned boycott. The difficulty is getting the boobs' noses out of sports and television long enough to realize the danger they're in.

It started when their textile QC epartment followed the general exodus to the great slave labor camp across the ocean. Last year, their personal appliance unit left (leaving one of my good friends unemployed-who's now quite radicalized, Mr. Bush, thank you). All the rest are to follow within the next two years.
All. Leaving noone behind but suits racking up the quarterly bonuses.

"Eventually, then, Levis may just shut down if it is unable to make a profit. "

What are you babbling about?

"The changes helped boost Levi Strauss' sales to $1.1 billion in its most recent quarter ended Aug. 24, a 6 percent to 7 percent increase from last year, according to preliminary results released Wednesday. The privately-held company said its third-quarter profit will range from $24 million to $28 million, a 75 percent to 104 percent rise from last year."

"As a sideline, Sears is moving their entire quality control department to China."

Why not? Its where a large percentage of their merchandise is made to begin with.

I wonder how many people 90 billion would employ in MAKE WORK projects, even. Let us say that we are talking about 50,000 per annum salaries. That usually costs 75,000 with bennies, so: 90,000,000,000 / 75,000 = 1,200,000 American Citizens that could go to work, at a respectable salary, for one whole year.

Bush has a colo-rectal view of the world.

Sorry, the problem is that a lot of the money the corporations are saving by using slave labor is going into the pockets of Washington politicians. In return, they get subsidies of OUR tax money to expand the program.
U.S. workers are fired, tax payments go down, taxes are increased on an evero-shrinking tax base, and here comes socialism!
It's happened before; the United States is hardly the first nation to fall apart.
