A single vehicle accident on Interstate 35 claims the life of a Dallas Center man.

Shortly after 3:00 Sunday morning, 19 year old Nathan Aaron Ballard’s car was wrecked near mile marker 159 on I-35. Ballard apparently wandered onto the road where he was struck by a northbound vehicle driven by 6 year old Joann Hejma of Ventura. Ballard was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident remains under investigation.

It took me several readings to finally realize that Ballard apparently wrecked his car and then dazed wandered onto the road where is was struck by a car.

Dallas Center man dies after begin hit by car

MASON CITY - A Dallas Center man died early Sunday after being struck by a motorist on Interstate 35 in Franklin County.

Nathan Aaron Ballard, 19, died after being taken to Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, according to the Iowa State Patrol.

Ballard, who was involved in an unrelated accident, walked onto the roadway and was struck by a northbound pickup driven by Joann Hejna, 65, of Ventura, the patrol reported.

The accident, which was reported at 3:15 a.m., remains under investigation by the State Patrol.

I was driving alone by ten, my brother was driving a tractor at four. That was in the country though, a six year old on a busy Dallas freeway is another matter.
