A CAR bomb exploded overnight outside an office used by US soldiers in northern Iraq, private CNN-Turk television reported.

The wounded included Iraqi Kurdish guards and children from nearby houses in Irbil, the administrative capital of Kurdish-controlled northern Iraq, CNN-Turk reported.

The office was on the road between Irbil and the nearby hilltop town of Salahuddin, CNN-Turk said.

The US regional headquarters is located in a hilltop hotel between Irbil and Salahuddin, but it is not clear if it was the target of the attack.

A Turkish reporter at the scene said by telephone that the building was partly collapsed and most of the injured were from nearby houses

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) A car bomb exploded Tuesday outside an office used by U.S soldiers in northern Iraq, private CNN-Turk television reported. Several people were reported wounded, but it was unclear if Americans were among them.

The wounded included Iraqi Kurdish guards and children from nearby houses. Firefighters were at the scene.

U.S. military officials said they could not immediately confirm the report on CNN-Turk, a local subsidiary of U.S.-based CNN.

A Turkish reporter at the scene said by telephone that the building was partly collapsed and that most of the injured were from nearby houses.

The television footage showed Kurdish women wailing and men running in panic with a burning car behind them. At least one civilian could be seen carrying a wounded child in his arms.

Footage showed the four-wheel-drive vehicle that apparently carried the bomb was intact but badly burned. Its chassis was in one piece.

Authorities in Irbil, administrative capital of Kurdish-controlled northern Iraq about 200 miles north of Baghdad, called to residents over loudspeakers to donate blood for the wounded, CNN-Turk said.

Northern Iraq has been the most stable part of the country since the ouster of Saddam Hussein.

Why cars are permitted near any compound used by our military is beyond me. It's one of the easiest solutions to prevent car bombs - outside installations that are considered high target buildings.

Same here. I'm not the emotional type, and very rarley let anything on the net bother me, but when it comes to cold blooded terrorism, I want to start killing the terrorists myself. It's an awful feeling. It's the feeling of rage.

I think they have to plug it like that. They know their viewer ratings are going to tank. If it weren't for the Black Caucas demanding the air time (I.E., "you must be a racist if you don't" tactic), they probably wouldn't be airing it.
I believe the ratings are going to be very low. We're not watching. No one I know cares about watching it.
I'd be very suprised if many tune in.

Today got to me. I guess on the homefront we're listening to Rats talking appeasement or cut and run, basically. They couch it in pretty terms, but that's it in a nutshell.

We actually have Rats bemoaning that the $$ spent in Iraq isn't being spent on domestic programs ! Sheesh.

Then we heard all this bad news and the Rats don't get it. I'll be okay as long as Bush is in office, or any other grown up after his term(s) are over.

I think if a Rat gets in office I will just sort of give up caring.
