Actually I'm having more fun and learning more here than when I was trolling. Was never able to get into any decent conversation with my associates in that activity ;-).
(Except maybe with Golden Eagle who I met before on another forum.)

.. there are greater threats to America from a Fascist One World centralized proprietary computing system like Microsoft and other Globalist companies are attempting to build with Paladium then [sic] there is from a foriegn [sic] open source kernel regardless of the parentage of the person who got the ball rolling for it.

Well said. Many emotional arguments seem to come from the profit motive and from Microsoft's belief in their entitlement to the PC market. GPL does not say you can't make money. And the current fiasco shows that Linux developers don't want to infringe on the IP of anyone else.

That's the two top arguments of the NBM crowd laid to waste.

It would seem reasonable to inquire exactly what is being licensed. Exactly what code is covered?

It was the conversation we had last night about my Freedom Public License that did NOT devolve into the usual flame fight and name calling session that was very decisive in my choice to try Linux again. I was able to find that you guys are NOT all Slashdot types through it.

I appreciate that. To be honest with ya, I expected your FPL thread to be a continuation of what had been your usual "GNU/Linux/GPL is communistic" rants, and was pleasantly surprised to see that you can think rationally when the trolls aren't around. Very cool.

Thank you for this post!

It was largely the conversations I was able to have with Linux users when Bush2000, Golden Eagle and TheEngineer were not present. Turns out they are actually very nice people when you are not trolling at them ;-)

Actually, I noticed that relatively early: until they showed up, we had some interesting exchanges. I'm glad you finally realized where the problem really lies.

Thanks for the tip about the NewsForge article. It's an interesting twist on the issue that I had never considered.

But frankly, I never considered the GPL or any open source license to be anything more than respecting the choices of the author. If they want to release something for free copying by all, that's their decision. And, they have the right to impose any pre-conditions, such as the GPL's requirement to do the same for any derivative works.

If you don't like the terms of the license, don't use it. There are usually alternatives. But, many people are making that choice when confronted with proprietary software licenses.

SCO sent us several bills. We immediately paid them all.

You Sir Nick are a great American.

However, and I hate to bring this up, but we haven't received payment to our invoice sent to you for services rendered, in the amount of $41,872,931. For you, Nick we'll call it an even $40,000,000 if we receive payment in 30 days.

Maybe we have your address wrong. If you will forward your correct address to us, we will re-invoice you without late penalties and look forward to receiving your payment in full.

Please make the check payable to

Cadwallidaer
Associates of the
Southwestern
Heliosphere

It's much easier for you, our customer, and us too, it you just use the initials CASH.

Oh darn! We sent that $$$ to Abud Mohhamed Lugano Swasila. He is the grand assistant to the first deputy of the chief of exports for the nation of Brundi. I can't say much more than that because it's a big big secret. I'm gonna make millions! Millions!
