DOE plans to reduce number of lie detector tests

The U.S. Department of Energy wants to scale back the number of nuclear weapons workers required to take lie detector tests.

That according to written testimony that Deputy Energy Secretary Kyle McSlarrow was scheduled to deliver to a congressional committee Thursday.

He says he’ll recommend substantially lowering the number of people that would be subject to polygraph screens.

McSlarrow says the problem of innocent workers tarred by false polygraph results is too great to ignore.

DOE officials had said in April they planned to continue polygraphing nuclear weapons workers as a way of trying to ferret out spies.

Many scientists opposed it, saying lie detector tests are not scientifically reliable.

Could this be because polygraphs are voodoo science and don't really work? Just ask Aldrich Ames what he thinks of polygraphs.

Civil service is going to the dogs.

Yesterday I read that today's IRS employees aren't able to be wrong much more than half the time!
Now I read DOE is no longer even going to test hires to make sure they can lie!

As a conservative I say bring back the old standards that gave us 100% wrong IRS employees and DOE employees who score 100% on their lying tests.

Polygraph results are not admissable in court for a reason--they do not work.

They look perfectly reliable to me. What's the problem?
