A Riverdale police captain accused of urinating into a pond at a Metro Atlanta theme park turned himself into authorities in Fayette County Wednesday.

"He had every intention of turning himself in right away as soon as he could talk to me about the charges," said attorney Leslie Miller Terry.

Riverdale Police Captain Carl Freeman is accused of relieving himself while outdoors at the Dixieland Fun Park in Fayette County. The incident happened as Freeman stood on a bridge over the "feed-the-fish pond."

"On Monday, Labor Day, Mr. Freeman was allegedly observed by the park owner urinating in a man-made pond at Dixieland Fun Park, which is a children-oriented amusement park. Mr. Freeman was confronted by the park owner," said Sgt. Belinda McCastle with the Fayette County Sheriff's Department.

"He was simply asked to leave the park and at such time he refused to."

Authorities say an altercation occurred after the park owner confronted Freeman. Fayette County authorities say Capt. Freeman is charged with assaulting the park owner. His job as captain is now on hold.

"Anytime an officer is accused of something like this, right now it is just alleged incident, we put them on administrative leave until the outcome of the investigation," said Officer Deborah Johnson with Riverdale Police.

Sheriff's department Sgt. Wayne Prosser says Freeman is also charged with public indecency, disorderly conduct, criminal trespass and simple assault.

Perhaps he simply misunderstood the instructions?
