All I can say is that everyone should just stay away from CA. Those people are crazy. It is not even worth debating. Anyone in his right mind can see the absolute insanity of this, but then again, liberalism is nothing but willful insanity.

Please, just stay away. Or, you'll be carrying you own pod around with you, too.

The Senate sent the bill to Davis with a 23-15 vote

That's most likely a straight party-line vote. There are 15 Republicans and 25 Democrats. I wonder which two (Democrats) abstained.

Madness!!!!

Everytime I read about something like this I wonder why I always played by the rules for my 70 years on this earth. Why bother?

Things like this might be the reason so many kids cheat today. Cheating pays.

But opponents, including Republican senator and gubernatorial candidate Tom McClintock of Northridge, said the bill increases security threats to California and the United States, while "undermining the enforcement of our immigration law."

Why doesn't this article mention that the biggest reason why opponents hate this bill is that it makes illegals for all intents and purposes citizens; drivers licenses are used as evidence of citizenship, and as de facto citizens the illegals can now vote. Illegals can now, with no one willing to stop them, VOTE in elections.

They would have to register to vote, first, which requires them to sign that they're citizens. The voter registration applications are already available at DMV's, attached to the DL/ID application. County registrar's don't check identity, and neither do pollworkers. Why would having a DL/ID card change anything that has to do with voting in CA for illegal aliens?

Bye Bye California

No... Bye Bye America!

With California's corupt "Motor Voter" law, every illegal that gets a license will also be automatically registered to vote! That includes NATIONAL elections that affect every citizen in every state!

My wife and I are leaving, hopefully by the end of the year. Heading off to New Hampshire, the "Live Free or Die" state.

There's a way around this. It's called the initiative. Whether one chooses to have it call for identification on the license indicating the persons residency status i.e illegal, legal or citizen or ban licenses for illegals altogether but still include the identification of whether the person is a legal resident or citizen(which should be there anyway); either initiative would easily pass. Another thing is they would pass muster in the federal courts.

I have lived in California all my life. I am going to be 62 years old soon. I have loved California, but for the first time in my life, I am beginning to think a move is in the cards for our family. How sad we are watching this before our very eyes. INSANITY is the word. What I fear is that it is the beginning of a trend.....downward for the whole country. You would think that Bush and the Homeland Security would be most interested in what we are doing here with this bill!!!!!!!

It further solidifies and entrenches that which is already WRONG. If anyone can get a DL, then its value in terms of ID and citizenship has been devalued to nothing; states such as Colorado have already said they will not accept CAlif. DLs as ID if this passes. Oh, and it also is doubling DL fees for all of us.

Of course it would pass easily, just like Prop 187 which got 60% of the vote....until it gets shopped to a pre-selected liberal judge who will throw it out, like Prop 187. Sorry, but when you're watching your own state circling the drain, it's hard to see the silver lining.

People are and have been leaving the state in numbers for the last 3 years. They are the business owners and others who are earning real money and generating a good chunk of the tax revenue. The population growth is due the the invasion from Mexico. I have lived here for 12 years and the changes in the racial breakdown of the general public are very obvious. I would leave but I can not afford to right now but will as soon as possible. CA is falling apart and this driver's license crap may have been a final head shot.

I read a thread last week that if this thing goes through, Colorado has stated it will no longer honor CA licenses. Anyone hear anything more about that??

I live in Illinois. I went with my son when he got his license. He had to have proof of both residence (his school transcript) and citizenship (an original copy of his birth certificate), as well as his original Social Security card. What California has done here is make their Drivers' Licenses no longer proof of citizenship.

That's actually acceptable as long as their other laws accomodate that. What does it take to register to vote in California?
